HDR is seeking an experienced professional who is passionate about communication for infrastructure development for the role of Strategic Communications Section Manager to build a team in our Washington market. This candidate should have a drive to innovate and has a habit of thinking outside the box. This position also joins an industry leading practice of more than 100 communication-consulting practitioners nationwide.

You are creative, a forward thinker, comfortable working on multi-disciplinary teams and collaborating effectively with colleagues in both content and technical development. You thrive on building and managing people and teams. You want to manage the operations of a designated Strategic Communications team including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support. You are exceptionally organized, with an almost obsessive attention to details, and highly driven with the ability to manage several projects and meet client deadlines. You aren't afraid of leading public meetings, hearings, open houses and other meetings with the public, clients and other project stakeholders. You have a track record of creating and implementing communications plans that included target audience strategies, event planning, scheduling and overseeing the production of collateral materials. You enjoy managing and leading clients, and developing relationships to build this program. You are a highly creative person that understands the importance of clear communication across multiple channels and mediums from video to social media. You are a lifelong learner who is constantly researching new technologies and trends, pushing clients and the team to innovate. You embrace the new. You are a self-starter who thrives and adapts in exceptionally fast-paced environments.
Excellent knowledge and experience developing and implementing communications plans and campaigns. 15 - 20 years' communications, public relations, marketing experience Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or relevant field. Experience in managing communications for industry specific programs preferred. Industries include transit, transportation, water supply, wastewater, power, utilities, and/ or municipal management. A strong client base and a proven career in a communications field Network of local media contacts and experience working with local media Familiarity with the area socio-political landscape strongly preferred
Develops and maintains a Strategic Plan for the growth and delivery of Strategic Communications in his/her respective area. Coordinates with the Regional Business Class Lead to support business class initiatives Client management and development by identifying target clients, actively market and develop new clients in coordination with Client Development Leads/Marketing Managers and Market Sector Leads Development and management of strategic communications programs for new and existing clients Advanced project management skills including development and management of scopes, schedules and budgets including staffing plans and workflow management Manage communications teams including multi-media designers, event planners, data managers and social media specialists Management of client deliverables Documentation of outreach activities and success metrics Media strategy and management Lead development and management of outreach strategy (political, business, residential, minority, etc) Mentor and develop communications staff Manage sub consultants Quality Control/Quality Assurance for other projects Pilot new outreach technologies and approaches Manage and give direction in stakeholder coordination and conflict resolution
