The Irrigation-Spray Technician, under supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system as well as proper applications of fertilizers and pest control products to the golf course. In Supervisor's absence, assumes responsibility to grounds maintenance staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ensure customer satisfaction through prompt, efficient and friendly service.
Irrigate greens, tees and fairways.
Ensure chemicals are mixed, applied, stored and handled properly and safely.
Work duties are performed outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions such as hot sun, wind, rain, cold, etc.
Provide routine maintenance of equipment and tools reporting any safety issues or repair needs to supervisor.
Manually irrigates dry areas needing additional water.
Repairs the irrigation system, pipes, wiring, communication decoders and irrigation heads as needed.
Maintain accurate, organized supply and inventory records, and prepare supply orders as needed for Superintendent's approval.
Will supervise special projects, including supervising small labor force, and will be Acting Superintendent in the absence of Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
Repairs greens, tees and fairways. Grades and prepares soil base, lays sod, and seed to greens, tees and fairways.
Operates dump trucks, and other light equipment in hauling and removing debris. Is required to operate a motor vehicle, will provide a valid driver's license, be insurable and consent to driving background history.
Report any irregularities in course turf quality to the superintendent or assistant superintendent.
Comply with regulatory laws, employee handbook, department policy and procedures, safety codes, etc.
Promotes a clean, safe and healthy work environment for employees and guest. Promptly reports all concerns to Supervisor.
Ensure that operation of equipment, tools and materials are handled in a safe manner.
Promote internal guest service standards through courteous and respectful behavior.
Other duties as assigned.
Two (2) years' experience in agricultural, horticultural or turf and landscape maintenance.
Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves, and controllers and a working knowledge of various types of pump and pumping systems.
Understanding of agronomy, turf grass science, and rules of golf.
Possess or obtain a Pesticide applicators license within 90 days of hire.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet WRC insurance requirements.
Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
Physically fit: able to bend, lift and maneuver 50 lbs., work in inclement weather, extensive use of back, arms, hands and legs.
Requires a criminal history background check.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
