Job Summary Columbus State University has an opening for an Accounting Assistant. This position will perform general accounting functions requiring the exercise of initiative and independent judgement based on knowledge of the organization, functions, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities Responsibilities include but are not limited to: a considerable amount of data entry for transactions and responsibility for a high volume of customer interaction providing services offered through the department; examining, coding, verifying, balancing, and reconciling various kinds of transactions, listings, invoices, vouchers, and purchase orders; maintaining accounting records of purchase orders, completion copies, and invoices; auditing travel expense statements and supporting documents; maintaining spreadsheets and/or other related files for vendors; examining travel applications for proper accounting distribution; preparing vouchers for purchase requests, check requests, travel reimbursements, etc.; and all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Minimum qualifications include an Associate's degree in Accounting from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of two years' general accounting experience in a computerized accounting environment, including experience directly related to area assigned; or in lieu of an Accounting degree, at least four to six years of experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, and related clerical work. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills; a strong customer focus; a demonstrated proficiency in utilizing computer technology to access data, maintain records, and generate reports; knowledge of bookkeeping practices; knowledge of purchasing, invoicing, and accounts payable; knowledge of local, state, and federal policies and procedures; a demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office software; the ability to communicate information clearly and concisely in person and/or on the telephone, exercising tact, patience, discretion, and professional demeanor; and the ability to work accurately with attention to detail, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated experience in PeopleSoft Financials or other related higher education software.
Proposed Salary The annualized salary range for this position is $24,882 - $27,993 and includes full benefits.
