Our lead carpenter would be responsible to execute various remodeling tasks. They must be able to troubleshoot unexpected surprises that so often present themselves in remodeling projects. The lead carpenter for this position must be proficient in both rough and finish carpentry. They must also possess enough general construction knowledge to tackle any stage of a remodeling project. Most importantly, this lead carpenter will also be a team leader who can command and oversee a crew while keeping moral and optimism high.
Our job sites range throughout St Clair, Sanilac, and Macomb counties. Please be aware before applying that you must have reliable vehicle transportation.
We do expect that a skilled individual applying for this position has either a truck or van (cargo or sprinter).

Responsibilities as a Lead Carpenter:
Union Properties lead carpenter would work directly with both a project manager and their field crew. They would work with the project manager to plan and execute the project, and as a leader of the field crew to follow through with that plan. The lead carpenter should understand the full scope of work and be able to delegate and teach junior crew members. The position requires a "jack of all trades" in remodel knowledge, and proficiency in rough and finish carpentry. Our lead carpenter is the front line for quality control and supporting team morale.
Remodeling tasks can include items such as installing vinyl plank flooring, tile, drywall, setting shower pans, minor electricity, minor plumbing, and of course, rough and finish carpentry. The lead carpenter will be asked to take measurements for the design team, meet with inspectors, subcontractors, or clients. They will be required to complete punch lists and final walkthroughs of the job with their project manager and/or client.
Scope of Work:
Demolition and protection prep.
Delegating and/or assisting the execution of these project start-ups as needed.
Base molding, casement, crown molding, stairway installation, cabinetry installation, etc.
Temporary walls for LVL Placement
Rough framing basic ranch house (including fire blocking and draft stopping)
Understand load bearing and non-load bearing walls
Proficient in framing interior door rough openings
Basic drywall principles of hang, tape, mud, and sand. In house drywalling is limited to smaller projects requiring 1-2 crew members
Backsplash and shower tile installation
Ability to upgrade or change plugs and switches
10+ years rough and finish carpentry
10+ years of remodeling kitchens and bathrooms
Technology savvy (use a smartphone, email, and basic computer skills)
High school diploma
Truck or work van
Tools (basic hand tools required)
Wages and Compensation:
$20.00-$35.00/Hour: Discussed at interview, dependent on skill level
2 week trial basis
Bi-weekly pay- this is a 1099 Position.
Paid overtime and paid vacation, eligible after 1 year
40+ hours weekly
