Growing Rochester, New York commercial construction firm is looking for an Estimator to join our team. This key position offers a career path for a high achiever to advance to a higher level management position within the Company. As a full-time Estimator, your work will include carrying out the entire process of bidding and securing the award of construction work for the Company.
For this role, an understanding of construction costs and job project knowledge are critical to preparing successful bids which bring in work. Responsibilities include obtaining an understanding of all project components by reviewing proposal specifications and drawings, attending bid meetings, and visiting project sites to understand job conditions, The work also involves performing quantity take-offs and quantifying project components, preparing and submitting complete estimates, and performing other related duties. In addition, the Estimator will provide support for the development of bidding strategies by debriefing management on bid results and offering suggestions for increasing the award rate on future bids.
Applicant must be detail oriented, must be comfortable managing and meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and must be willing to work more than 40 hours a week when necessary. Candidate should ideally have knowledge of commercial construction and general contracting, be able to read drawings, be proficient with computers, and have great time management, communications and customer service skills. Proficiency with MS Office software required, and proficiency with Sage 100 Contractor, Sage Estimating, and Planswift Take-off software a plus. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in construction or engineering or a related applicable field is preferred. Candidates should ideally also have prior work experience in the construction industry, with one to three years of construction estimating experience preferred. However, we are also willing to train the right candidate, including recent graduates.
Starting salary dependent on experience and other factors.
