The California Hospital Association (CHA) represents and advocates for the legislative and regulatory interests of California's hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers so they can better serve their patients and communities. We are a terrific group of hard-working professionals on a mission to ensure Californians have equitable access to affordable and high-quality health care. We also care for our team members by offering a culture of respect, opportunity, and positivity in a challenging and fun work environment. We offer a highly competitive compensation and benefits package.

Directly reporting to the Group Vice President of Data Analytics, this position is primarily responsible for generating complex health care data reports and providing fieldwide information and analysis to CHA staff, members, public agencies, regional associations, legislators, the public, the media, and other organizations on a time-sensitive basis. This position is responsible for quality control, accurate research, data gathering, and development of analyses. These products are most often used in education and advocacy efforts. The ability to compile and analyze health care data and reports is critical for success in this position. Our ideal candidate will feel comfortable engaging with some of the state's top health care policy experts, legislative advocates, and communications professionals to produce high-quality, accurate, and meaningful reports and analyses that show a story behind the numbers. This position must be able to interpret the meaning behind a spreadsheet and go beyond crunching data.

Bachelor's degree in statistics, data analytics, business administration, public health, or other relevant discipline

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in analytics; health care policy analytics preferred

Advanced skills in MS Office software programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Experience with database management and data visualization software (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, SmartSheet)

Strong collaborative skills and resourcefulness to make the best use of available resources and data assets

Ability to effectively manage projects in a timely manner, turning concept into reality

High degree of initiative, resourceful and strong problem-solving skills

Proven ability to effectively communicate with others, verbally and in writing, in an informative and non-technical manner

            REQUIRED CHARACTERISTICS

            Provides exceptional customer service

Demonstrates and always maintains a positive attitude with internal and external team members across the federated organizations and other stakeholders

Effectively communicates with others, orally and in writing, in an informative, non-technical and helpful manner

Takes appropriate initiative, being both proactive and assertive

Maintains a high level of accuracy and quality

Demonstrates resourcefulness, creativity, and self-motivation, and possesses the judgement and ability to plan and initiate projects effectively

Explores and follows through on ways to improve process and efficiencies

Demonstrates the ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials in a professional manner

            PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and develop new data visualizations, dashboards, and other analytical tools to better comprehend and translate health care data for advocacy and policy development

Work with state agencies and California hospitals to support the collection and validation of data reported through the CHA COVID Tracking Tool

Provide expertise and stewardship for relevant data sets, including hospital finance data and be comfortable conducting high-level data analyses and working with large data sets

Conceptualize data analyses to identify trends, opportunities, and anticipate impact of state and federal policy changes

Review and analyze published studies on California's hospitals and health care system to validate the accuracy and identify erroneous conclusions

Translate the results of data analyses into easy-to-understand charts, graphs, and other visuals, to explain the analysis and conclusions to colleagues, stakeholders and CHA members
