Sutter Institute for Medical Research (SIMR) oversees and supports all research conducted at Sutter affiliates and their associates (i.e. independent physicians, etc.) in the Sutter Health Valley Area (SHVA), north service area.The north Valley is situated in the greater Sacramento area from Yuba City to Vallejo. SIMR partners with physicians, nurses, technicians, and other Sutter staff to bring new, innovative and sometimes ground-breaking research opportunities to Sutter patients.Areas of specialty include, but are not limited to, oncology, neurology, cardiology, family medicine, dermatology, GI/GU, etc. SIMR maintains a very robust and diverse portfolio of research clinical trials and is well known and respected in the research community in Sacramento and northern California.The department currently employees 35 FTEs.
The vision for the future of SIMR is moving from "Good to Great" focused on further enhancement of this department by focusing on structure, function, execution and measurement systems, and to make SIMR is very high functioning, state-of-the-art and nationally leading research organization. The goal is also to expand and include two additions sites; Memorial Medical Center and Gould Medical Group's research, thereby encompassing the entire SHVA service area.
The Director reports to the SHVA Chief Medical Officer and collaborates with the Sutter Health research institutes . As a strategic leader, the Director engages in the development of the SIMR vision and consistently communicates this vision ; managing, motivating, and inspiring staff to share that same vision.The Director is integral to the implementation of change and creating an effective organizational structure , and has an ability to think critically and take action when necessary.
The Director is responsible for program development and operations of the Sutter Institute for Medical Research (SIMR). This includes Office of Research Administration, Clinical Trials Program, and Health Services Research. The Director is responsible for managing research regulatory compliance, fiscal operations; managing the review, approval, contracting, soliciting and initiation of grants, contracts and clinical trial studies; marketing the program to investigators and sponsors; developing policies and procedures, managing the technical, business and personnel operation and monitoring quality assurance. The Director of Operations provides administrative and clinical direction to personnel and ensures that the overall operation is in compliance with Sutter Health policies and all relevant regulatory agencies.
The ideal candidate for the Director position is a dynamic, influential, and servant leader who can help create a vision for the future, execute on the plan, and create an effective organization structure to support the vision and plan. Areas of focus will be quality of research, compliance, physician and staff satisfaction and productivity among other things.
