Applies the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing.
• High School graduate or equivalent.
Minimum Work Experience
• 1 year coding experience in a healthcare setting (Ex. Hospital, MD Office, Clinic, Healthcare Consulting, etc.).
• Certification of CPC or, RHIT or, RHIA or, CCA or, CCS-P, or CCS, or COC, and must pass a coding proficiency test with at lease 85% accuracy.
Must have thorough understanding of ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and AHA Coding Clinic; HCPCS/CPT coding systems and CPT Assistant and Coding Clinic for HCPCS guidelines; Medicare Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), and Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC).
Has knowledge of and abides by HIM coding policies and procedures.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Language Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
