"New to the Operating Room" (NTOR) Virtual Interview Day

This is an opportunity for new graduates or experienced nurses pursuing professional practice in the operating room.
This will be an opportunity to meet with the Perioperative team to hear about our exciting program, talk to some of our new graduates, and see a virtual tour of our facilities. OR nurses that have successfully completed the residency program. This will include UNC Medical Center, Ambulatory Surgery Center and UNC Hillsborough locations.
This NTOR program is a 6-month curriculum utilizing AORN's Periop 101, didactic classroom instruction, simulation lab practice, and hands on clinical preceptorship. In addition to the daily schedule, expectations will include completion of all modules, homework, evaluations, and achieving a passing score on the final exam. Each nurse will spend time on the main campus for class and simulations and will participate in clinicals at their home facility. You can expect to spend intensive training/clinical time the first 10 weeks and will then rotate through multiple specialty services at your home site before graduation from the program learning both the circulating and/or scrub roles (dependent on location).
Specialty team assignments are congruent with individual preference and team fit. Orientation schedules are subject to adjustment per student or department request. You can expect to work on complex cases with a team of passionate and collegial OR professionals, utilizing the best patient care models. UNCH Main Campus
The Main campus is a level one trauma academic facility and includes 26 operating rooms. It is a very fast-paced environment offering multiple service lines. We are proud to be on the cutting edge of technology for a number of surgical procedures. Our specialty procedures include cochlear implants, organ transplants, bariatric procedures, open-heart surgeries, ECMO, endovascular surgeries, flap reconstructive surgeries, stereotactic and image guided neuro surgeries, da Vinci® robotic surgeries, and Hyperthermia Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) just to name a few. UNCH is also a regional burn center. In Fiscal Year 2018 there were 35,831 cases completed in our division. There are a number of specialty teams available and primary shifts are 7a-530p. Weekend, Holiday, and call coverage is an expectation and a 40 minute response time is required. Duties will include scrubbing and circulating roles. Clinical ladder is available for advancement.
The children's hospital is a level 1 pediatric trauma academic facility which includes 6 operating rooms. Specialties include minimally invasive surgery, general, ENT, GU, orthopedic, neurosurgery, plastics, dental, cochlear implants, cleft lip/palate repair, fetal surgery, and burn surgery. The COR is also included in our regional burn center. The COR performs approximately 5,000 cases per year.
Hillsborough Hospital Campus
UNC Hospital Hillsborough Campus includes 8 operating rooms and is looking for an energetic and positive nurse to join our team. Duties will include circulating and/or scrubbing in General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Orthopaedics (total joint and spine) and Neurosurgery. UNC Hillsborough places a great deal of emphasis on customer service, patient experience, and teamwork.
Ambulatory Surgery Center
The Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) is a freestanding surgical facility that is located in Chapel Hill near UNC Hospitals' medical center. The ASC provides surgical care to both pediatric and adult patients. The ASC supports these services: orthopedics, ENT/OHN, plastics, general laparoscopic, general oncology, urology and dental with over 7000 cases completed each year. The ASC is looking for experienced RN's and new graduate applicant candidates with a passion for excellence and desire to help build a great team. Upon completion of the NTOR program, the ASC offers 40 hours per week, 10 hour shifts x 4, 7 am to 530 pm, Monday through Friday. No weekends, holidays or call.
Upon completion of training and/or orientation the work shift will be: 40hr/week Monday - Friday 7am - 5:30pmw call
This opportunity is for new graduate RN's who are currently in their final semester of nursing school or who have graduated within the past 12 months of their anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. It is required that candidates will have their North Carolina RN license prior to their start date.
For experienced RN's:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
One (1) year of nursing experience
Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
