The JCC seeks a dynamic and experienced educator to lead and implement its Jewish Family Engagement platform.
The Senior Director of Jewish Family Engagement is a new role at the JCC. This professional will be responsible for leading the JCC's efforts to engage Jewish families in their own journeys of discovery, wonder and learning. The successful candidate will thrive in the creation of unique programs and enjoy the educational creative process. Building upon the JCC's My Tribe platform, an innovative movement involving families in the nexus of Jewish tradition and personal Jewish expression, s/he will connect young families to Jewish tradition, to community and to each other.
The Senior Director of Jewish Family Experience should be a strong and proven leader committed to inspiring meaningful engagement in all aspects of Jewish life; this person is a strategist who can collaboratively design programmatic strategies that emphasizes the JCC's dedication to celebrating the lives of the New Jewish Family. S/he should be a thought leader with a deep understanding and experience of turning plans into action. S/he will collaborate with cross-departmental colleagues to inspire excitement in Jewish experiences and incorporate Jewish content into programmatic departments across the JCC.

The JCC of Greater Baltimore believes in the centrality of Jewish expression in a young family's life and strives to build a playground of options for experimentation, learning and living for Jewish families. Working with a team of creative department directors across the JCC's three program Centers: Youth & Families, Arts & Culture, and Sports & Wellness, the successful candidate possesses a bold, fun, and creative spirit with deep appreciation, understanding and personal experience in helping families to shape their own Jewish identities. Celebration, understanding and respect for all types of Jewish practice, belief, modalities and community are integral both to the JCC and to this position.
The JCC operates two full-service facilities in the Baltimore metropolitan area as well as the Downtown Baltimore JCC (DBJCC), a family engagement center, in Federal Hill. Both the Rosenbloom Owings Mills and the Weinberg Park Heights JCCs offer comprehensive facilities and a diverse menu of programming focused on enriching lives at all ages. With 20,000 members and 25,000 visitors and program participants, the JCC serves over 45,000 people per year at our campuses or partnership locations throughout Baltimore City and County. The JCC is a "town center" for Jews across a diverse spectrum as well as the broader community, celebrating diversity of thinking and expression.
Over the past 3 years, the JCC has both adopted a new mission and engaged in organizational strategic visioning to determine the best ways to meet the current needs and future trends of the Baltimore Jewish Community. Both the Board of Directors and Professional staff are resolved that the JCC must offer more than traditional membership programs, fitness, camps, early childhood, and camping. An evolved JCC is customer-centric, innovative and unafraid of change.
The work environment is usually fast paced. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff as well as with members, other agency staff, community leaders, and outside partners, vendors, others.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.

Director: $75K - $90K commensurate with experience
The JCC offers a full-benefits package including health, disability, retirement match, and family discounts for all JCC programs. A relocation allowance is available for this position.
Generously funded by the Meyerhoff Charitable Funds and the Associated Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, My Tribe is a construct that disrupts traditional engagement practice and breaks the silo between engagement and education. This co-collaborative initiative strives to engage the new Jewish family in the creation of their own Jewish story. My Tribe addresses the perception that the new Jewish family lacks interest in connecting to a Jewish community and instead aims to re-calibrate a sense of connectivity and relationship with those who want to engage with Jewish tradition while practicing "on their own terms." My Tribe provides a framework of authentic in home, group and communal experiences that empower a deeper connection and ownership over Jewish identity, commitment and practice. The goals of My Tribe are:
My Tribe intentionally swims upstream against traditional outreach and engagement theory with an intentional marriage of engagement with education. For My Tribe, the concept of "meeting people where they are" and leaving them there cannot be the end goal of successful engagement. Meeting willing, seeking people with an approach of partnership, open-mindedness and respect to co-create a journey that starts with something shared and/or collective is evolved engagement.
A healthy balance between individual and community requires that both influence one another. My Tribe posits that engagement cannot be prescribed by the community and cannot be limited to programs people plug into. Conversely, engagement cannot be so individualized that Jewish experiences remain isolated and private. A vibrant Jewish experience must create a balance between the role of community and individual (in this case, family unit) to be authentic and impactful. In an ideal model, the relationship between individual and community is co-creative and reciprocated. It is based on mutuality, respect and joy.
Each tribe is comprised of 10-15 families who are either already networked together/share an existing connection (e.g. connected by a program, a group of friends from high school/college, parents whose children go to school together, etc.) or come together via My Tribe recruitment. With the guidance and partnership of a professional educator, each Tribe identifies the trajectory of its group's journey over the course of the program year. Choosing from a menu of fun, unique, experiences and/or co-creating Jewish experiences of their own, Tribes meet a minimum of 6 times over the course of one year. The experiences are a mix of private (Each tribe participates in an experience together which focuses on group identified themes or goals) and communal.
