    Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated system of care that includes HCMC, a nationally recognized Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and acute care hospital. The comprehensive healthcare system includes a 484 bed academic medical center, a large outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center, and a network of primary and specialty care clinics in Minneapolis and in suburban communities. Hennepin Healthcare has a large psychiatric program, home care and hospice, and operates a research institute, innovation center and philanthropic foundation.

    Hennepin Healthcare has a full-time opening for a Manager (or EMS Deputy Chief) in the EMS Education division.

    The Hennepin EMS Education division consists of 11 full time staff and over 40 casual staff to provide approximately 10,000 student hours of education a month. These educational offerings include:

    The largest CAAHEP accredited paramedic program in the state of Minnesota

    Primary EMT Education

    Tactical Emergency Medical Peace Officer (TEMPO) Program

    Critical Care Paramedic Course

    Quarterly continuing education for first responder agencies

    AHA Training Center

    NAEMT Training Center

    Advanced Trauma Life Support

    Trauma Nursing Core and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Courses

    SUMMARY

    Under the general administrative direction of the EMS Assistant Chief (Director) and the EMS Chief (Senior Director), the EMS Deputy Chief (Manager) of Education has the authority to direct staff and is responsible for the coordination of the department's education unit.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Develop the annual EMS Education budget and control expenditures. Recommends operating, discretionary, and/or capital budget initiatives to EMS Assistant Chief (Director)

    Work collaboratively with other Deputy Chiefs (managers) and medical director in maintaining department policy and procedures and other services and activities for the EMS department. Ensure department compliance with OSHA, HIPAA and The Joint Commission

    Directs the work of department staff. Direct supervision of the Battalion Chief (supervisor) of Education, educators, and education support staff. Indirect supervision of battalion chiefs, paramedics, EMT-EMDS, and other support staff
    Works collaboratively with the Deputy Chief (manager) of staff in hiring and retention needs of the education department

    Evaluate staff, facility, equipment, and training resources needs

    Oversee curriculum development and educational activities

    Direct and evaluate the development of instructional strategies

    Direct records maintenance and data collection for research and evaluation purposes

    Serve as consultant for public safety departments regarding pre-hospital training needs and other EMS issues

    Identify and evaluate opportunities for outreach training

    Coordinate implementation of quality assurance initiatives and evaluation of services

    Responsible for EMS Department Annual Practicals including curriculum development and educational activities

    Work collaboratively with the Deputy Chief (manager) of Staff in curriculum and educational activities

    Work collaboratively with the Deputy Chief (manager) of Special Operations in maintaining and supporting the curriculum and education activities of the Special Event EMRs

    Maintain department accreditation from Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE)

    Maintain education records for EMS department personnel

    Meets with community and public safety representatives to ensure first responder educational needs are met

    Support and maintain contracts and agreements of the education unit

    Perform all job functions of an Battalion Chief (supervisor) of Education when working in this assignment

    Operates emergency vehicles, administers basic and advanced life support techniques, performs related duties in providing emergency medical services, and transports sick and injured persons to and from a health care facility
    Perform all job functions of a paramedic or EMT, when working as a member of a crew, subject to training and certification

    QUALIFICATIONS
     
    Minimum Education/ Work Experience

    Master's degree in a health, business, or educational related area

    Four years of approved paramedic experience with an active ALS service

    Two years of teaching experience in pre-hospital emergency care;

    OR

    Master's degree in nursing

    Four years of current professional nursing experience in emergency care or other critical care setting

    Two years of teaching experience in nursing, healthcare, EMS or closely related field;

    An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    Ability to effectively manage company resources (i.e. budget and personnel)

    Skilled in overseeing the efforts of high-level department individuals

    Superb ability to motivate employees and inspire positive change within department, innovative thinker; Ability to contribute new ideas that support organizational goals

    Skilled in managerial duties (i.e. hiring, firing, performance appraisals, pay reviews)

    Skilled in modeling company values through daily interactions within the department, particularly with regards to health and safety

    Capable of supporting the work of the department

    High standard of ethics, discipline, and professionalism

    Skilled in fostering a positive workplace culture and building inclusive workplace teams

    Preferred Qualifications

    Four years teaching experience in EMS education programs where leadership skills and clinical competence have been demonstrated

    License/ Certifications

    Current certification as a Paramedic with the State of Minnesota or valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Minnesota

    Must have a valid driver's license or state equivalent and must have a satisfactory driving record including no more than two moving violations in the past three years of licensure

    Must complete an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course as designated by Hennepin EMS-post hire

    Must qualify for and maintain a Hennepin County motor vehicle operators permit-post hire
