      Job Description

      JOB SUMMARY:  
      •	To prepare attractive, healthy dishes for natural foods prepared foods department, to help meet department goals for sales, margin, labor and customer service.
      •	Reports to:  Kitchen Manager / Assistant Kitchen Manager
      •	Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans, by hand or by machine. 
      •	Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition. 
      •	Place clean dishes, utensils, or cooking equipment in storage areas. 
      •	Sort and remove trash and recycling, placing it in designated pickup areas. 
      •	Sweep and/or scrub floors. 
      •	Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, or silverware. 
      •	Wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to prepare for cooking. 
      •	Prepare a variety of recipes, according to instructions, following approved procedures. 
      •	Take and record temperature of food and food storage areas, such as refrigerators and freezers. 
      •	Portion, wrap and label the food. Weigh or measure ingredients. 
      •	Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage.
      •	Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks or items as needed. 
      •	Inform Kitchen management when food and supplies are getting low. 
      •	Keep records of the quantities of food used. 
      •	Stock supplies, such as food or utensils, in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators and cases.  
      •	Transfer supplies or equipment between storage and work areas.
      •	Pull old or low-quality items, record and properly dispose of them, following established procedures.
      •	Maintain kitchen in sanitary and orderly condition, following guidelines set by Kitchen Manager.
      •	Clean up spills, take out trash, sweep and mop floor.
      •	Follow safety, storage and labeling procedures.
      •	Advise Kitchen Manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
      •	Attend department staff meetings and storewide meetings.
      •	Perform other tasks assigned by Kitchen Manager and Assistant Kitchen Manager.
      •	Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
      •	Participate in periodic inventory counts.
      •	Alert Manager on Duty to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers or other emergencies.
      •	Experience in cooking for prepared foods deli, restaurant, or catering.
      •	Familiarity with natural foods a plus.
      •	Accuracy, attention to detail.
      •	Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.
      •	Ability to work with other people in close quarters.
      •	Ability to stand for long periods.
      •	Regular, predictable attendance.
      •	Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
      •	Ability to lift 50 lbs.
