Vertex is seeking to hire an Associate Director (AD) to join the Forecasting & Analytics team in the Commercial organization. This individual will provide quantitative and qualitative forecasting and analytical and support for key commercial processes and business decisions, and will frequently interact with senior Commercial and Vertex leadership. Individual must have a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy in creating deliverables, and must be highly self-directed in engaging with stakeholders, but also be able to effectively work in a team-oriented setting.
Provide a high degree of support for the monthly US CF short-range forecasting process, which focuses on the current year and the following year, and aims to project revenue by modeling numerous underlying revenue drivers.
Provide a high degree of support for the annual global long-range planning (LRP) process for global CF and non-CF revenues, which plays a key role in strategic and tactical planning. The LRP process requires substantial cross-functional collaboration to collect and integrate inputs, and forecast revenues, across all current and future markets.
Regularly develop, conduct, synthesize, and present performance analytics and commercial decision support for inline products, based largely on proprietary SP data set; ensuring quality of output and recommendations, as well as timeliness and business relevance.
Working collaboratively with cross functional stakeholders including but not limited to US Marketing, Global Marketing, US Managed Markets, US Finance, Commercial Sales Operations, Marketing Science, INTL Commercial and Finance, etc.
Deliver robust quantitative market assessments with clear articulation of the key drivers, sensitivities, risks and opportunities.
Support for these activities will vary, but may include ownership of parts of the process, or support through ad hoc analyses.
Master's degree in a quantitative discipline required (e.g., Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Science).
5+ years in biotech/pharmaceuticals in a quantitative role in Commercial / Finance / Corporate Strategy / BD, or 3+ years in consulting (management, strategic or economic consulting) post-MBA/PhD, with meaningful biotech/pharmaceuticals and quantitative decision support experience.
Proficiency in complex Excel modeling, (and preferably some exposure to VBA).
Strong analytical and business acumen: intellectual curiosity, motivation and ability to structure problems, diagnose issues and triangulate with multiple approaches while keeping sight of the "big picture".
Experience analyzing large data sets, such as transactional or claims data, using a statistical analysis software package (e.g., SAS or equivalent)
Experience in working with senior leadership to support financial forecasting and analytics, and/or commercial launch planning.
