    Principal Responsibilities:

    The York Jewish Community Center's CEO will be a visionary leader possessing excellent strategic and managerial skills and strong intellect to serve as a passionate advocate of the York JCC's mission. The CEO will work with the Board of Directors and staff to cultivate strong ties between the JCC, its members, donors and key stakeholders. This person will be results oriented and will provide leadership in all aspects of the JCC's operation, including responsibility for the day-to-day management of the JCC. Additionally, the CEO will recognize the strengths and skills of staff and volunteers, empowering them to carry out programs in keeping with the vision, policies and goals established by the JCC's Board of Directors. The CEO must be able to perform the following essential functions of the position:

    Financial Resource Development

    • Fund Raising experience at leadership level
    • Success with developing and maintaining relationships with donors and/or foundations
    • Experience with funding long-term capital needs and endowments

    Representing the JCC

    • Experience with cultivating positive relationships with Jewish communal institutions to promote broader community collaboration
    • Experience with cultivating positive relationships with broader community agencies and community leaders
    • Experience with cultivating positive relationships with other non-profit agencies
    • Potential to be the "face" of the JCC in the greater community

    Financial Management

    • Ability to work effectively with CFO, finance committee, and the Board
    • Ability to develop, analyze, monitor, and adhere to annual budget
    • Be accountable for preparation of regular financial reports
    • Make financial presentations to appropriate community organizations
    • Analyze and plan and manage capital expenses
    • Leading a budget of a similar size

    Management Skills

    • Formulate job standards and practices, and delegate job responsibilities
    • Recruit, select, train, and evaluate leadership team
    • Direct, inspire, guide, and motivate staff
    • Identify and recommend training/coaching for leadership team and staff
    • Support morale that inspires team
    • Ability to positively engage with members
    • Experience with organizational routine and high-stakes crisis management

    Strategic Planning and Thinking

    • Experience with a comprehensive 3-5 year strategic plan that positions an organization for success
    • Ability to manage current issues while envisioning the future
    • Can identify key strategic opportunities and alliances to drive the JCC forward

    Programs, Services and Membership

    • Ability to increase members, Jewish and non-Jewish
    • Sensitivity and responsiveness to under-served, diverse populations
    • Inspire staff and committees to assess, evaluate and enhance programs
    • Ability to inspire a culture of innovation and risk-taking to create new, cutting edge programs and services that meet the needs of the current and future JCC members

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years of experience; proven successful management and leadership experience in a JCC, non-profit or similar organization
    • BA/BS degree required; MA/MS degree preferred in Jewish communal service, non-profit management, public administration or related field
    • Strong record of professional commitment and goal achievement
    • Experience leading an organization of similar size, with profit & loss responsibilities, facility and staff management

    Who We Are

    The JCC is a non-profit community center that welcomes the diverse population of York County, regardless of religion, financial or ethnic background. Since 1910 the JCC's role has changed and expanded to reflect the current times. Our staff is committed to providing members and guests with high quality programs and customer service. Included in a membership is the use of the fitness center, over 100 group and water fitness classes each week, lap and family swims, open gym use, family art and gym activities, a relaxation center complete with whirlpool, sauna and steam room, and discounts on fitness, social, and enrichment classes and programs.

    The JCC History

    The Jewish Community Center was founded originally as the Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association and eventually changed its name to the Jewish Community Center. Between 1910 and 1952, it moved to five different locations in York City. In October of 1989 the JCC moved to our current location on Hollywood Drive.
