Picking Up Shifts
When a business requests a shift at their location, all Shifts workers who have matching availability will get a text with a link to the shift details.
When you successfully claim a shift, congratulations! You’ll get a confirmation message on your screen. You’ll also see it listed in your “Upcoming Shifts” section of your Shifts by Snagajob account. You’ll get an additional text reminder 24 hours in advance of your shift start time.
When you claim the shift, the business also gets a confirmation message and your basic info. This way, they’ll know who to expect, and someone will be waiting to welcome you.
It’s up to you whether you claim a shift or not. Every time you get notified about a shift, you can review the requirements. This includes things like location, hours, and uniform guidelines. Some brands may require you to review training materials or pass a simple quiz (don’t worry, you can take it as many times as you need) to be able to work at their location. You can see if a business requires training by reading the details page of the shift you’re interested in.
Typically, shifts require items you would normally have in your closet, such as black pants or a button-up shirt.
To help you prepare, we've created a quick checklist of all the items you may need for most shifts.
Non-slip, closed toe shoes
Black closed toe shoes
Black dress pants
Khaki dress pants
Solid white button-down shirt
Solid black button-down shirt
Solid white polo shirt
Solid black polo shirt
Solid white t-shirt
Solid black t-shirt
Jeans, no holes
If you are not dressed appropriately for a shift, you may be considered unprepared. The manager is allowed to send you home without pay.
While not often, after more than one warning related to your attire, you may also receive a strike in addition to being sent home from the shift.
We’re constantly adding more businesses to Shifts, so if you’re not getting any shift invitations, we recommend you adjust your availability in your profile settings.
You can also view all available shifts by logging in to the Shifts app or website directly.
On the website, click on My Account from the top menu, then Notification Settings. You'll be able to customize shift notifications based on the following:
Type of notifications. In "Message types" on the Notification Settings page, you can set if you would like notifications through email or text. Notifications include information about new shifts that match your preference, reminders and updates about your claimed shifts, and changes in your Shifts account.
Locations. In "Notification area", you can adjust notifications you receive about new shifts based on the area you would like to work.
Availability. In "Availability", you can adjust notifications you receive based on the hours you would like to work. This will only adjust which notifications we send, you will always be able to see all available shifts in the Shifts app. You can also adjust your availability on the app by tapping "Account" in the bottom navigation bar, then scrolling down to the "Availability" section.
