The Illini Union at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a talented professional to serve as the Retail Services Coordinator for Vending and Contract Management. Founded in 1867, the Illinois campus is one of the original 37 public land-grant institutions. It is one of the top comprehensive research public universities in the nation. The successful candidate will be working on a campus with academically talented and diverse student population, including 19 percent international students, 12 percent Asian American students, 5 percent African American students, and 6 percent Hispanic/Latino students from a total enrollment over 42,000 students. As the community center of the University, the Illini Union draws together all members of the University with approximately 16,000 visits of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests on a daily basis.

Applications are now being accepted for a Retail Services Coordinator position in the Illini Union, the campus community center. The Illini Union offers a comprehensive program of activities and services to the University community including a hotel, meeting rooms and conference facilities, campus vending, recreation, student activities, food court, technology store and a bookstore.

Position Functions: Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director for Retail Operations, the Retail Services Coordinator will supervise and manage all contracted retail operations held by the Illini Union across campus and will serve as a liaison between the Illini Union, host university department and contracted vendors. The Retail Services Coordinator will also develop and implement possible future operations in the area of retail services and other commercial ventures. Responsibilities will include: developing and implementing annual departmental budget, maintaining an effective communication between the Illini Union and all retail service contractors, working with Purchasing Division on the matters of preparing RFPs or other procurement solicitations, identifying retail trends in the industry, maintaining accurate records of all transactions to and from the Illini Union retail service operation and special programs. The Retail Services Coordinator will work closely with the Senior Associate Director of the Illini Union including making recommendations and providing supporting documentation on proposed ventures. The Retail Services Coordinator will assist with and resolve any customer interaction issues with and between the Illini Union and food service vendors as well as the campus community.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree and a minimum of two years experience in a retail setting are required. A degree in business or a related field is preferred. Computer skills are also essential.

Preference will be given to individuals with good communication skills, strong customer service skills, excellent planning/organization skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, and experience with the budgeting of a retail operation. Experience working with vendor contracts or procurement solicitations is also preferred.

Appointment Status: This is a 12-month, full-time Academic Professional position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package.
