The Chattanooga Choo Choo is seeking part-time Banquets Servers. Prior banquet serving experience a plus. Servers also perform banquet room set-up duties. Hours vary, but are flexible. Tennessee ABC Server Permit required - candidates with a valid server permit will be given priority.

BANQUET SERVER JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY: Serves meals to patrons in banquet dining establishments by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. As an employee of the Chattanooga Choo Choo, everyone is expected to be willing to extend his or herself beyond the scope of his/ her duties when needed.
-Assists set-up staff with preparing tables before functions and/ or breaks. -Verifies tables are properly set with clean silverware, linen, glassware, and china.
-Learns and executes service procedures as instructed by Banquet Captain and/ or Banquet Manager.
-Garnishes and decorates dishes prior to serving.
-Observes diners to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.
-Brews coffee or tea, refills water, and maintains a continual supply of condiments, or performs other food services as determined by supervisor.
-Clears and re-sets counters or tables at conclusion of each course.
-Returns all food to the kitchen as soon as guests have finished with break or course.
-Notifies Banquet Captain before leaving the floor or service area for any reason.
-Performs side duties between functions or breaks such as polishing silverware, cleaning equipment, or folding napkins.
-Maintains a clean workstation by sweeping and mopping hallways and performing other general cleaning duties.
-Returns all unused linen to the proper storage facility.
-Assists set-up staff with closing functions or breaks.-Sets up all tables, chairs, risers, podium, etc. according to contract.
-Verifies all equipment and supplies are placed in their proper storage facilities.
-Removes garbage and straightens banquet areas when groups are out.
-Cleans and stocks foyers and bathrooms in banquet areas as assigned.
-Notifies Banquet Captain/ Banquet Manager when supplies are low in stock.
-Reports any damaged items or items needing maintenance attention to the Banquet Captain or Manager immediately.
-Responds to changes in guest's contract in a timely and complete manner.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ or ability required. EDUCATION and/ or EXPERIENCE: At least three to six months related experience and/ or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rates and discounts.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Permit to serve liquor must be obtained through the state of Tennessee and updated when expired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk around his/her workstation. The employee is regularly required to handle trays or dishes. Employee must have the ability to balance and carry trays of food (up to 8 plates with covers). The employee must also be able to talk with/or hear other employees and customers. On occasion, he/she may be required to stoop or kneel to retrieve trays, linen or other supplies. The team member must be able to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
