Core Responsibilities: Responsible for overall growth of new large group public sector customers segment (government, education and labor) for UnitedHealthcare's nine state Southeast Region.  Position is aligned and works in close coordination with the local health plans and markets.  The role requires development of best practices and performance strategies for the region with support from UnitedHealthcare Growth team.  Position is responsible for management of the region's territory plan; advance sales pipeline development and enhancing broker/consultant communications for the markets. The role is a member of the sales pursuit team and at times, leads and coordinates the external RFP response. 



The role requires development of differentiated messages for RFP responses and external presentations using UnitedHealthcare best practices and resources.  Working diligently with our local health plans and markets, this position can interface with sophisticated prospects, plan sponsors and external consultants who desire customized solutions.  Indirect responsibility is the support and retention of existing accounts. 



Product Knowledge: Detailed understanding of UnitedHealthcare products, services and solutions including ancillary product lines.  Good working knowledge of UnitedHealth Group enterprise.


 


Healthcare Knowledge: In-depth industry healthcare knowledge, understands important trends.  Working knowledge of medical and pharmacy management, clinical operations and strategies and network management strategies.  Strives to understand goals, operating principles, strategies and competitive position of UnitedHealthcare. 


 


Financial and Underwriting: Understands financing methodologies and strategies. Thorough knowledge of underwriting principles and practices. Can explain and justify financial projections to external parties, if necessary. Understands the drivers of administrative costs and plan liabilities.   


 


Internal Operations and Capabilities: Understands company's information systems capabilities and strategies. Ability to navigate internal departments to produce positive service results for clients and the company. Must be able to maintain extensive knowledge of internal resources, roles/responsibilities and processes.


 


Relationship Building: Perceived as a leader in his/her region, health plan, external market and within UnitedHealthcare. Possesses the ability to build and maintain strong internal relationships and work well in cross-functional teams and matrix partners. Has demonstrated aptitude to build trusting relationships.  Strong consultative sales skills.  Has ability to move a prospect through the public and labor market sales process. Ability to present strong and persuasive arguments for consideration. Strong presentation skills using company incorporated techniques.


Ability to influence and negotiate complex situations. Ability to deal with sophisticated customers and brokers/consultants. Ability to orchestrate and lead a diverse and complex team sale.  Ability to develop effective plans for achieving business/sales goals.

Requirements


 Minimum of 7-10 years successful healthcare experience consistently exceeding expectations/goals.

 

-  Track record of successful sales experience to the public sector including municipalities,    school districts, higher education and labor union customers.

 

-  Demonstrated strategic planning skills

 

- Demonstrated experience in strategic business relationship development.

 

-  Strong consultative selling skills; sold healthcare products through direct sales and/or brokers.

 

-  Demonstrates broad based knowledge of the industry, market trends and UnitedHealthcare.

 

-  Exceptional relationship and networking capabilities

 

-  Sales insurance license maintained by law.

 

-  Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field.

 

-  Maintains valid driver's license

 

-  Willingness to travel as required (approximately 25%).
