SUMMARY
The Senior Architect of Service Platform Evolution and Convergence is responsible for the evaluation and definition of architecture solutions for the customer facing application platforms (voice, video, home security, etc.), that reside within the Cox Network and its extensions to Cloud, Virtualized, and Hosted implementations. These platforms will be Network equipment and systems including application servers, integration environments, and common enabling systems such as Identity Management, Subscriber Profile Management as well as their functional interfaces to OSS and BSS Systems. This individual will work with other departments and product teams to develop a cohesive understanding of our platform requirements, evaluate various technologies and solutions, and collaborate with design and development teams on actual implementation guidelines and architectures.
The Senior Architect of Service Platform Evolution and Convergence works cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Strategy & Development, Marketing, Operations, Vendors and Manufacturers in order to perform this role. This individual will lead collaborative efforts both internal to Cox Communications as well as external industry activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serve as a primary subject matter expert related to Customer Application Service Delivery platforms and networking technologies.
2. Develop long term architectures, roadmaps, and requirements related to service provider owned and cloud based or hosted Application, Enabling, and interconnected platforms.
3. Develop solution architectures and ensure delivery projects are aligned with strategic architectures and objectives.
4. Develop long term architectures related to the Delivery of current and future product sets into Cox’s residential and commercial customer markets.
5. Develop long term architectures related to the support of key services required to support device platforms in a robust fashion: Recommendations, Content Ingest, Storage and Delivery.
6. Work with other departments to collect and define platform architecture requirements.
7. Study new technologies that are related to Application delivery technologies.
8. Evaluate new Computing and Application platforms and software architectures to aide in delivery of advanced services.
9. Build and evaluate proof of concept prototypes to validate architectural concepts.
10. Track various industry developments related to Application and Integration emerging Technology & Standards (i.e. W3C, IETF, IEEE).
11. Contribute to the development of a software platform strategy allowing Cox to enable rapid development, ensure wide cross platform support and maintain the lowest possible cost to develop and deploy.
12. Manage and evaluate proof of concept implementations and champion platform strategies across Architecture, Engineering, Strategy, Product Development, and Marketing organizations.
13. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
1. 8+ years of experience in related field (i.e., Video Service Provider/Vendor or Telecom Service Provider/Vendor):
a. Video and Communications Service Delivery architectures and deployments (including Cloud, Virtualized, and Hosted);
b. Application Integration platforms such as Oracle OCAS, IBM WebSphere, and JBOSS, and functional interfaces to service consumption devices such as conventional Set Top Boxes, IP Video display devices (IPSTB), Tablets, and SmartPhones.
2. Significant experience in the development and deployment related to IP and related technologies (i.e. DNS, MPLS, BGP, HTTP, IPv6).
3. Transport layer technologies such as IP Routing, Metro Ethernet, and Local Area Networking
4. Significant experience in the development and deployment related to Delivery Platform technologies (i.e. VOD, IPTV, Voice, and Messaging).
5. Strong fundamental knowledge of Physical layer wireline access technologies including HFC, RFOG, and PON, as well as wireless technologies such as LTE, Wi-Fi, and M2M wireless (Bluetooth, Zigbee, Zeewave, etc).
6. Significant experience defining long term technology architectures, strategies and roadmaps, as well as implementing standards.
7. Proven ability to influence and lead large cross organizational teams.
Preferred
1. BS/BA in related discipline strongly preferred (i.e., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, etc.); or MS/MA and 5-7 years of experience in related field.
2. Experience with designing and deploying end-to-end control systems that support Video Service Delivery including Video on Demand, IPTV, and VoIP/IP Messaging.
3. Experience with API Development and Management.
4. Experience with Web Server (SOA) architectures.
5. Experience with designing complex distributed Delivery Platforms.
6. Experience with Control Protocol Implementations.
7. Experience with HFC networks.
