Position Purpose

To maintain SCI and Country Inn & Suite standards for guest satisfaction as well as room and property cleanliness, while operating within predetermined budgetary limitations. Assist in developing an environment of “Country Culture” for our Customers and Associates that is evident in all phases of the operation.

Areas of Responsibility

a) Responsible for managing efficient operations of the entire housekeeping department (including guest rooms, laundry, and public areas). Ensure that guest rooms, lobby area, and public areas consistently meet cleanliness standards. Report any deficiencies or maintenance issues to appropriate staff. (20%)

b) Ensure absolute guest satisfaction at all times. Present a positive, professional image and appearance. Foster an environment that supports “Country Hospitality” and mutual respect for all guests and Associates. (20%)

c) Recruit and select Associates. Provide effective orientation, training, coaching/counseling, performance reviews, disciplinary action, and positive feedback as appropriate. Identify and communicate performance expectations as well as policies and procedures to Associates. Provide Associates with the necessary tools to do their jobs. (15%)

d) Conduct regular departmental meetings, including topics such as safety awareness and accident prevention. Demand safe work practices of all associates. Maintain open lines of communication with management and staff. (10%)

e) Prepare Associate schedules, according to occupancy forecasts, budgetary guidelines, and productivity requirements. (10%)

f) Maintain required inventory levels for all housekeeping supplies and equipment while staying within budgetary guidelines. (10%)

g) Respond to all housekeeping situations, including guest requests, guest complaints or any type of accident or issue. (10%)

h) Ensure guest privacy and security at all times. Maintain an effective system of monitoring guest room keys. Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all guests and Associates. (5%)

Key Skills and Requirements

a) Business Communication – Use results-oriented writing techniques and strategies for correspondence with correct grammar and punctuation.

b) Computer – Basic ability to use computer hardware and software including, but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.

c) Organization – Demonstrate ability to proactively prioritize needs and effectively manage staff, resources and time.

d) Decision Making – Improve the speed and direction of decisions by clarifying and setting goals and identifying action steps.

e) Planning – Skilled in determining whether tasks should be attempted, identifying the most effective way of completing the task, and preparing how to overcome unexpected difficulties.

f) Coaching – Develop and guide others in professional growth and performance enhancement through assuring clarity of goals and facilitating the generation of options and action planning.

g) Delegation – Assign tasks using such techniques as needs analysis, individual skills assessment, objective setting, and communication.

Training/Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience Desired

Minimum of one (1) year of hotel or supervisory customer service experience.

Qualification Standards

  • Ability to perform duties within scheduled time lines and budget.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to have outgoing and positive interaction with Guests, Associates, and Vendors.
  • Ability to cooperate and support others.
  • Ability to accept directions and priorities from the General Manager.
  • Ability to work extended hours, to include evenings and weekends.
  • Assists and performs other duties as requested/required.
