POSITION SUMMARY
Field Interviewers will work on the Transitions for Success research study. FIs on this study will be responsible for interviewing inmates in jails and prisons for a baseline interview and interviewing them in the community for a 6 and 12 month follow up interview.

POSITION TYPE
This position is part time; hours will vary depending on the site for about 12 months. We are looking for individuals who are able to commit to the duration of the project.

J OB REQUIREMENTS
  • Be available for at least 15 hours per week to conduct interviewing during the field period data collection period. The assignment will be primarily during weekday hours for the baseline interview and then include evening and weekend hours during the 6 and 12 month follow up period.
  • Have reliable personal automobile available for business use.
  • Administer an RTI-provided computer-assisted questionnaire to respondents.
  • Be able to pass a criminal background check both for Headway and for each individual jail or prison covered by the work assignment.
  • Complete the required number of interviews by the end of the data collection period in an efficient and timely manner according to project protocols.
  • Contact participants in advanced of the scheduled home visits to confirm or reschedule the appointment.
  • Obtain cooperation of study participants by effectively answering questions and addressing concerns.
  • Obtain informed consent from respondents.
  • Accurately complete all project documentation, including electronic survey instruments and all reporting forms.
  • Ability to read text verbatim from a computer screen and paper documents.
  • Prepare and ship buccal swabs for the follow up interviews.
  • Adhere to project deadlines for completing interviews, shipping buccal samples, reporting progress and returning materials and equipment.
  • Keep project information confidential.
  • Ability to carry project-related equipment, approximately 10 pounds, to walk up steps and walk from car to jail/prison/household.
  • Ability to complete all required activities in a professional manner, while maintaining the integrity of all information acquired.
  • Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with your project staff, objectively sharing your thoughts while displaying an understanding of project management's concerns.
  • Be receptive—not defensive—when given feedback from project personnel about your performance, striving to learn and improve.
  • Prompt, reliable and accurate reporting to project staff.
  • Submit time and expense reports weekly.
  • Must have regular access to an analog phone or broadband connections for data transmissions
  • Assume responsibility for and carefully track all money used for cash incentive payments.
  • Assume full and legal responsibility for use and care of computer, taking reasonable and appropriate steps to safeguard it against damage, loss, or theft, and returning it at the conclusion of the assignment or at a supervisor's request.


TRAINING AND PAY
Field Interviewers will be expected to attend an in –person paid training in the Raleigh, NC area May 28-31. Attendance at training is mandatory . Trainees must successfully complete training to continue employment on the project.
