Summary:
The Team Leader/Scrum Master is responsible for leading the development of custom software solutions to support NextGear's business initiatives, while following the NextGear SDLC process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Candidate will lead the development custom software to support NextGear's business initiatives as part of an Agile software development team.
- Manage the relationship with primarily internal (occasionally external) software development customers
- Manage the software development team work plan
- Have ownership of change management, and risk and issue management processes
- Work with the rest of the NextGear family to develop software that helps the organization to perform more efficiently and profitably
- Facilitate daily Scrum stand-ups of their assigned development team
- Participate in and/or facilite periodic department-wide strategic planning sessions (i.e., Scrum of Scrums)
- Report back to the Director of Product Development (and/or other managers and executives) on team/project status and forecast
- Present periodic demonstrations and showcases of team work to various audiences within the organization
- Work closely with Product, UX, and Design teams, as well as other software engineers.
- Lead a design/build/test team using Ruby on Rails with Cucumber and/or other BDD tools
- Coordinate paired programming for the developers, ensuring that technical and business domain knowledge are shared and software defects reduced
- Encouraging aggressive refactoring in order to keep technical debt to a minimum
- Be a leader in the Indianapolis area project management community, as well as the worldwide virtual community of software development

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- 5+ years in a software development environment
- 2+ years in a team leadership role
- Experience as a Scrum Master
- Current Scrum Master Certification required
- Project Management certification preferred
Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Will supervise a team (approximately 5-10) of software developers
Training Requirements:
- On the job, ongoing
- Maintenance of appropriate certifications required
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to stand and sit for periods of time
- Ability to operate office equipment, computers, faxes, copiers, and phones
- The position requires good speaking and listening skills
- The position requires the ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail
