The Senior Director Healthcare Architecture is a Senior Leader within our Optum Payer Consulting organization.  The role requires in-depth experience within Healthcare Technology coupled with strong consultative skills. 

 

Success in this role requires strategic and operational business domain experience within a health plan including but not limited to claims and surrounding systems including core claims, enrollment, finance, care management, etc.  In-depth understanding of upstream and downstream data flows, process changes, systems, etc. and how they affect all activities.

  • Conducting diagnosis/ assessment activities and defining high-level program/action plans.

  • Work with product and project teams to analyze and understand enterprise business drivers to determine business information and system architecture requirements

  • Design and develop solutions that provide clients with secure, robust and scalable solutions, taking into account user requirements, technical requirements, etc. (e.g. solution architecture) and ensuring the architectural integrity of the solutions

  • Leading the technology evaluation and selection effort for a client's SOA platform

  • Detail design and implementation of technical solutions including SOA/Integration Architecture, Business Intelligence platforms and new or enhanced application systems.

  • Being recognized as an expert on one or more technology vendors/products/areas,

  • Participates and drives all phases of the projects, helping to ensure timely delivery of projects with an emphasis on front-end strategic assessment and solution definition

  • Leads and oversees multiple technical work streams

  • Provide thought-leadership to clients and team members across business and technical project dimensions, solving complex business requirements.

  • Mentor all team members on their assigned project tasks.

  • Participate in the development of additional consulting opportunities within the client base.

  • Drives the creation of new standards and best practices as technology evolves; communicates and drives adoption across the technical community

  • Assess new technology to determine its viability and applicability within client's technical environment

  • Leverage strong technical skills with business intelligence / data warehousing /Big Data technologies (e.g.Teradata, MicroStrategy, Tableau, SAS, DataStage, Hadoop)

  • Able to explain technical solutions to multiple technical teams, non-technical teams, and senior management

  • Participates in the Technical Governance and Architecture review boards

Market Planning and Thought Leadership (25% Time Allocation):

 


  • Define market needs & gaps to current capabilities (matrix with Pillar, Competency, and Sales teams)

  • Drive market acceptance, competitive advantage & customer satisfaction (matrix with Pillar, Competency, and Sales teams)

  • Define POV for best practices and develop key performance indicators to show value

  • Work with government relations to understand regulatory opportunities/risks and align government relations with long-term marketing and delivery plan

  • Determine pricing models and options for new solutions

 

Sales Support (10% Time Allocation)

 


  • Participate, support and complete RFI, RFP and sales process

  • Complete financial analysis for proposed solutions

  • Builds Marketing and Sales Collateral

  • Attends and participates in oral presentation

 

Client Management and Client Satisfaction (15% Time Allocation)

 


  • Establish trusted partner relationships to expand the Payer Consulting footprint at designated clients

  • Obtains high client satisfaction scores (>90%)

  • Develop and maintain clients references

 

Program Oversight & Service Delivery (50% Time Allocation):


  • Direct responsibility for the oversight, hands on participation and delivery of large scale projects/programs.  Large scale programs are defined as high cost, high complexity and/or high risk.

  • Ensure utilization rate and billable revenues are attained annually

  • Facilitate development of business segment and enterprise level planning and program objective setting

  • Participate in senior level program funding and prioritization decision processes

  • Provide strategic input to the development of program roadmap and timelines 

  • Create a team oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies

  • Support the management of resources within programs

  • Support program communication plan and execution

  • Require that quality assurance methods are implemented within the program

  • Provide status updates and review of programs to senior leadership

  • Provide coaching and mentoring of project team with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization

Requirements




  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree in computer or business related field preferred

  • 10+ years overall technical/business experience

  • 5+ years Solutions Architect experience

  • 5+ years of experience with SOA/EAI design and development

  • 5+ years working in a Big 5 or large consulting organization is preferred

  • 3+ years of experience working in the healthcare industry with solid experience and knowledge of healthcare infrastructure, applications, end to end systems such as claims.(TriZetto FACETS and QNXT, HealthEdge HealthRules, IKA Systems and others)

  • Broad architectural experience, across OS (Windows, UNIX, Mainframe), Database (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server), application server (J2EE, .NET) and other technologies (MQSeries, JMS, Struts, Junit), etc

  • Demonstrated experience developing large-scale enterprise wide solutions (Web, Client-server, Mainframe)

  • Experience assisting with business development, RFP, RFI activities

  • High degree of proficiency in data analysis

  • Proven problem solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)

  • Project management - strong project tracking, presentation and reporting skills

  • Strong ability to influence and motivate

  • Ability to travel 80% is required.  ** see note

** Travel is required for this role and typically our associates leave out early Monday and return late on Thursday.  Location of residence is flexible for this role; however, travel is a requirement.
