SUMMARY: Repairs and maintains and installs machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties. In addition Installs and repairs electrical and mechanical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

v Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

v Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

v Repair and rebuild equipment such as compressors, pumps, hydraulic motors, valves and cylinders.

v Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled or as required based on his/her observations or directions given.

v Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

v Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

v Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

v Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.

v Checks devices to test their performance.

v Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

v Cuts, welds and saws wood and steel components as required. To fabricate temporary/permanent repairs or construction.

v Repairs electrical equipment.

v Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors, and programmable controllers.

v Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.

v Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, DC drive controls, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.

v Reads and interprets Electrical and Mechanical prints and schematics as required.

v Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Manager/Plant Engineer to diagnose malfunction.

v Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, solenoids and motors, and positions sensing devices.

v Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards, PLC and computer components.

v Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.

v Pushes buttons and presses keys on programmable controller to program automated machinery, such as robots, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.

v Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

v Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

v Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

v Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume .

v Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

v Forklift training and certificate required.

v Some working knowledge of OSHA, NEC regulations.

v Welding/Electrical Journeyman’s license desirable.
