Purpose: To order and merchandise products to meet department objectives for sales, margin, inventory turns and customer service.

Status: Reports to Store Manager

Responsibilities:
I. PURCHASING
A. Place orders with established suppliers to maintain appropriate in-stock level and inventory turns.
B. Participate in the selection of products with Directors, Coordinators and Merchandisers.
C. Monitor product movement to help determine which of the non-core products to carry and which to discontinue.
D. Receive orders as needed in accordance with established procedures.
E. Ensure accurate, up-to-date shelf tags and price labeling of department items.
F. Implement promotions, sales and new products provided by Directors, Coordinators and Merchandisers.
G. Communicate with Directors, Coordinators and Merchandisers the products that sell and what customers have requested.

II. MERCHANDISING
A. Stock department area (shelves, bins, coolers, freezers), rotating to ensure freshness.
B. Work closely with Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to maintain attractive, fully stocked neatly organized displays and end caps working within New Leaf monthly merchandising plan.
C. Provide product information to customers and staff.
D. Assist customers with product questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation and train others in the department to do so.
E. Provide direction and work with department staff in stocking and maintaining department.
F. Ensure accurate signage is in place.
G. Post "Temporarily Out of Stock" and "Manufactures Out of Stock" signs promptly.

III. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
A. Monitor state of equipment and inform Store Manager of problems or needs.
B. Maintain department area, bins and shelves in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
C. Organize and participate in inventory counts.
D. Maintain shrinkage and inventory records.

IV. CUSTOMER SERVICE
A. Assist customers with special order requests in prompt, friendly, courteous manner and follow through until customer receives the product or order is cancelled.
B. Report customer suggestions, comments and complaints to Store Manager.
C. Spend as much time as possible in department to assist customers and deter theft.
D. Stock and maintain displays fully to give feeling of abundance.
E. Assist customers in finding and/or using reference materials and product samples.
F. Follow security procedures. Alert MOD or Security to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers and other emergencies.

V. Perform other tasks assigned by Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
Review department financial reports with store management.
Participate in training of department staff.
Attend and participate in department meetings and trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Basic computer skills
