Job Description:
The Regional Operations Coordinator will design, lead, and promote effective advocacy initiatives and research minority contract opportunities within the state of Nevada in support of the mission of the Western Regional Minority Supplier Development Council (WRMSDC). The Coordinator will build relationships between certified Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBE) and Corporate Members. He/she is an inspiring leader capable of coaching, mobilizing and motivating the minority business community, public agencies, and Corporate Members in the strategy to grow the utilization of MBEs. The Regional Operations Coordinator will develop relationships with key stakeholders throughout the state of Nevada, including government agencies, Corporate Members, and community leaders with a concentrated effort to identify contract opportunities. The Coordinator will: identify opportunities to raise the profile of WRMSDC within the region by seeking participation in relevant advocacy organizations and networks; develop partnerships and alliances to advance the Council's mission; and represent WRMSDC in a range of public settings such as conferences, stakeholder meetings, and workshops.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Advocacy, Strategy Development, Research and Implementation

Deliverable:
Develop a coherent regional advocacy and opportunity strategy to integrate within the state of Nevada with an emphasis on Las Vegas, clearly demonstrating activities and initiatives are taking place with a positive impact on local MBEs and Corporate Members.

Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Assist the WRMSDC President in shaping the vision of WRMSDC advocacy strategy for the state of Nevada.
* Work collaboratively with Corporate Members, state & local program offices, MBEs and community organizations to determine the best approach for integrating advocacy objectives in the region.
* Ensure that initiatives and activities directly support wider WRMSDC priorities.
* Identify funding opportunities to support the region and the WRMSDC network.
* Establish system, tools, and process to measure and monitor the expenses and success of activities.
* Identify and distribute open contract and RFI opportunities to the region and the WRMSDC network.


2. Networking and Representation

Deliverables:
WRMSDC is an active, contributing, and engaged affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council. The Coordinator is expected to represent the regional affiliate in all matters related to MBE development within the region.

Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Identify and work with the President in developing relationships with government agencies, perspective Corporate Members and advocacy groups within the region.
* Build strong relationships with relevant advocacy organizations and networks within the region.
* Seek out and capitalize on opportunities for collaboration.
* Facilitate networking and exchange between WRMSDC and stakeholders.
* Represent WRMSDC in external events and conferences within the region.


3. Capacity-Building

Deliverables:
WRMSDC employees are knowledgeable, aware, and committed to supporting the organization's supplier development activities. Employees actively participate in needs assessments, training events, and in the overall development process for MBE utilization.

Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Assess the learning and development needs of certified MBEs.
* Assist with the design and implementation of training workshops, or other appropriate forms of support to raise the capabilities of all stakeholders.
* Identify external training opportunities for both Corporate Members and certified MBEs.
* Gather examples of best practices within the region to improve ongoing efforts.


Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in a field relevant to the duties of the position i.e. business management, marketing, supply chain, communications, government relations.
* Experience researching, analyzing, synthesizing, and reporting.
* Experience with the state and local government in Nevada, with an emphasis in Las Vegas area.
* Experience with and knowledge of the Nevada small business advocacy market.
* Excellent networking skills and the ability to develop and nurture professional relationships with other practitioners and institutions.
* Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, including good public speaking in an inspiring manner.
* Computer and internet proficiency (MS Office, databases, web research).
* Excellent problem-solving abilities, finding innovative solutions to difficult and complex challenges.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, persuade, and develop positive relationships.
* Willingness and ability to travel within the region to support initiative.


Desirable Qualifications
Experience working with satellite offices/staff in other states.

Minimum of four (4) years' experience in the area of supplier development, advocacy, Supplier Diversity, supply chain management.

Experience in fundraising and government grant writing.

Excellent group facilitation, multi-stakeholder consultation, and strategic planning skills.

Knowledge of local decision makers and stakeholders.

Self-Starter with the experience and confidence to challenge the status quo and engage stakeholders in real change and commitment.
