About this job

Optum Data Management is focused on building market solutions to drive innovation across the healthcare ecosystem. Big data platforms are a core component to our strategy and we are looking for senior Hadoop software engineers to support these initiatives. As a Hadoop software engineer you will be responsible for planning, design and development of platform features/capabilities leveraging open source, Hadoop-related technologies. Candidates must be familiar with Agile development methods, understand object-oriented programming methodology, able to collaborate with architects on component design, and experienced with the software development lifecycle. Ideally candidates will have at least 6 years of experience as a programmer (3+ years in Big Data space) and 10+ years of large scale Data Warehouse experience.

o   Minimum of 6 years full SDLC  development and implementation experience
o   Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with programming on high-scale or distributed systems (such as Hadoop)
o   Ability to write MapReduce jobs (proficient in Java) (3+ years)
o   Hands-on knowledge of Hbase, Hive and Pig (3+ years)
o   Familiarity with data loading tools like Flume, Sqoop
o   Knowledge of workflow/schedulers like Oozie
o   Extensive knowledge about Hadoop Architecture and HDFS
o   Must have subject matter expertise and hands on delivery experience working on popular Hadoop distribution platforms like Cloudera, HortonWorks, MapR, Pivotal



Assets:


 


o   Previous experience with high-scale or distributed RDBMS (e.g. Teradata, Netezza, Greenplum, Aster Data, Vertica)
o   Knowledge of cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. Amazon Web Services EC2, Elastic MapReduce) and considerations for scalable, distributed systems
o   Knowledge of NoSQL platforms (e.g. key-value stores, graph databases, RDF triple stores)
o   Hands-on experience with ETL  tools (e.g Informatica,  Talend, Pentaho)
o   Hands-on experience with BI tools and reporting software (e.g. Microstrategy, Cognos, Tableau)
o   Hands-on experience with "productionalizing" Hadoop applications (e.g. administration, configuration management, monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning)
o   Hands-on experience with analytical tools, languages, or libraries (e.g. SAS, SPSS, R, Mahout)
o   Healthcare experience
