Description

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Manager, Import Operations at our headquarters in Mundelein, IL. The Senior Manager coordinates the successful execution of Import freight strategy which impacts over $70MM dollars of expense across 20,000 imported containers comprised of orders from 10 Divisions. This individual is responsible for the daily execution of Medline's import strategy, including ocean carrier routing, daily brokerage operations, dray carrier operations, import documentation, FDA clearance as well as the direct management of 5 team members. In addition, the Senior Manager ensures Medline product moves efficiently into the US so it can be positioned for repack/sale and helps supervise the performance of Medline's overseas PO management service. In addition to exceptional leadership and analytical skills, you must have a “roll-up your sleeves” attitude.



Key responsibilities:
  • Act as primary point of contact for tactical, shipment-related issues/questions across the import supply chain. Oversee a supervisor, analyst and three clerks to ensure containers move fluidly into the country without delay. Provide direction to entire import team.
  • Assist Import Supervisor on resolving issues with US FDA, Customs Brokers and the division on product clearance issues. Communicate daily with Division/Operations management to expedite purchase orders and prioritize delivery of critical items into the network efficiently.
  • Proactively manage and report on carrier routing guide compliance; work with contracted steamship lines and 3 rd parties to ensure capacity is in place to consistently satisfy inbound demand. Create KPIs and help administer corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure proper import documentation is maintained on imported product and that Medline adheres to US Customs regulations. Assist quality control group and branch operations team by providing guidance on inbound containers requiring FDA hold or examination.
  • Create operational SOPs for DCs to promote timely processing of import containers and minimization of storage/demurrage charges.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree (Logistics/Transportation/Finance/Business preferred)
  • 7-10 years of progressive management experience in Import logistics with a high volume importer of record
  • Customs house brokerage and domestic transportation knowledge a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office; advanced Excel, experience in SAP preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to communicate clearly and effectively to vendors/partners including non-native English speakers, executives and all other levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a team environment, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; identify trends and future problems for proactive resolution
  • Ability to travel up to 5%
