About this job

The Associate Director of Appeals & Grievances will join the management team of our UHC Appeal & Grievance Operations business.  This position is responsible for leading operations for Medicare & Retirement Complaints to Medicare (CTM) inventory and production with focus on achieving a 5 Star Rating and passing CMS audits.

 

  Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Provide expertise or general support to team in reviewing, researching, investigating, negotiating, and processing and CTM's. 

  • Analyze and identify trends and provide reports as necessary.

  • Identify root cause for CTM's and provide thorough reporting on drivers of CTM's with overall objective of reducing CTM volume

  • Provide business partner management/leadership and is accountable for the performance of managers and/or senior level professional staff.

  • Develop and drive employee management model - employee value and retention.

  • Identify and resolve technical, operational and organizational problems outside and within own team.

  • Drives accountability and issue resolution with business partners

  • Drives superior service delivery, productivity and quality improvements throughout the organization

  • Translates overall business strategy to determine overall impact and develop and execute on short term and long term operations goals

  • Develops staff to ensure succession planning at all levels in the organization

  •  Creates performance excellence by identifying best practices, building measurement systems and improving operational efficiency

  • Consistently demonstrates ability to act and react swiftly to continuous change and challenges

  • Develops innovative operational solutions and architects process, technology, and people/change components to deliver cost effective results

  • Develops productive and collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners, customers and suppliers

  • Uses sound judgment to resolve politically sensitive roadblocks

Requirements

 



  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience required, MBA a plus

  • 3+ years of operations and/or vendor management 

  • 1+ year of leadership experience and managing team of 50+

  • Healthcare industry knowledge required

  • Experience with M&R and CMS required

  • UHG experience preferred

  • Consultative style and approach with ability to influence and drive others

  • Experience working in a matrix environment

  • Approximately 25% travel required

  • Proficient skills with MS (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project and SharePoint)

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills

  • Strong strategic and business acumen

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Poised to interact with senior and executive leadership

  • Demonstrated experience with creating, deploying, and managing complex business imperatives

  • Demonstrated experience in building a highly effective team
