Finance / Healthcare Data Analyst – San Antonio, TX

The Finance / Healthcare Data Analyst is part of a team that researches and investigates business problems through quantitative analysis using healthcare cost and utilization data. As a Finance / Healthcare Data Analyst, you will design and develop reports and analyze data to measure clinical outcomes, network performance and methodology levers. This position also conducts the on-going presentation of analysis results and findings to support healthcare business operations, performance and improvement. The reporting team for this position has a focus on developing a variety of reporting tools to support the work that is performed by the WellMed Medical Management team. There are also a variety of reporting tools that are developed to support a variety of UnitedHealth Groups' initiatives, state and regulatory compliance measures outcomes, and periodic client specific performance measures/outcomes.


Primary Responsibilities:



• Review claims, premium, capitation and membership data in support of underwriting, actuarial and utilization analyses
• Create and update automated processes
• Analyze reporting tools utilized by the internal customer groups
• Produce and review reports
• Research, retrieve, design and deliver organized analytics and reporting of medical claims
• Analyze benchmarking data, reports, processes, and measurements for key managed care indicators
• Forecast costs and utilization trends and create financial modeling using claims and other health care data
• Develop/document business, analysis and reporting requirements
• Evaluate and prioritize data changes and enhancements
• Assist in making decisions of considerable impact and consequences involving healthcare expense trends
• Independently interpret data, facts and/or trends
• Develop innovative approaches to achieve deliverables
• Ad Hoc analysis
• Performs all other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



• 1+ years of experience in a data analysis, finance, or accounting role
• Experience working in a corporate setting
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)


 Preferred Qualifications:



• Bachelor's degree (Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Healthcare Administration, Statistics or related area); or equivalent experience work
• 1+ years of healthcare or managed care experience
• Healthcare claims data analysis experience is preferred
• Proficiency in MS Access (developing and running queries) and SQL writing queries, troubleshooting queries, etc.)
• Ability to quickly learn and use computer software tools effectively
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and drive results
• Be a team player and ability to work with minimal guidance in fast-paced work environment
• Strong project management skills required, be very organized and detail-oriented
• Strong written and oral communication skills required, be able to interact with all levels within an organization
• Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others
• Solid analytical skills
