The Business Intelligence (BI) Administrator is responsible for administering and maintaining the Business Intelligence platform and providing day-to-day operational support. This includes maintaining an environment for the authorizing of KPI’s and dashboards. Coordinate and communicate planned upgrades, enhancements and maintenance for BI Platform servers. Perform regular BI Platform repository maintenance which includes cleaning orphaned Connections/Universes/Documents. Develop, modify, and maintain ETL processes. This includes analysis, scripting, scheduling, mapping, monitoring and general administration.
Within the business intelligence domain, the Business Intelligence Administrator requires additional mastery of data, analytics, KPI’s, metrics, dimensions, attributes and business processes to support the capturing of customer requirements that ultimately are delivered as reports and data interfaces. Proficiency in related processes such as system analysis, data analysis/profiling, project management, methods/tools and quality assurance are also required.
Essential Functions
- Provide operational support for the Business Intelligence production environment
- Monitor and coordinate ETL process with vendor and business users
- Serve as a subject matter expert in BI platforms
- Demonstrate proficiency in BI tools
- Provide input for creation and execution of training content and plans
- Configure BI tools to meet complex business and system requirements by leveraging recommended best practices, organizational governance, ensuring optimization of performance and minimizing risk
- Managed BI system security and permissions
- Assist end users with access and data issues
- Perform root cause analysis and following up on related action items
- Manage the promotion of BI artifacts through development, integration, and production environments
- Coordinate patches and upgrades as necessary in BI platform servers
- Work with users and/or project teams to analyze business needs and develop requirements documentation and project plans
- Establish best practices with regards to system maintenance, configuration, development, testing, data integrity, governance, etc.
- Perform system testing, conduct user acceptance testing, including development of test plans and test scripts; track and correct system defects
- Document final test results; obtains approval from requestor and other project stakeholders as necessary
- Comply with change control, development life-cycle and release management policies and procedures
- Maintains and monitors configurations to ensure end user success
- Respond to escalated issues, conducts troubleshooting/research and reports on workarounds and resolutions per ITIL-management best practices
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent additional experience in a related discipline (e.g., information technology, computer science, business, engineering)
- Minimum 4 years of experience managing the administrative and software configurations for a full scale BI platform implementation
- Strong knowledge of designing, implementing and managing complex BI deployments
- Experience with Manthan ARC BI system is preferred but not required
- Retail environment experience is preferred but not required
- Moderate SQL development and operational support skills
- Knowledge of ITIL V3 and Java programming desirable
