Currently seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to provide support to payroll operations by processing and distributing domestic and Canadian employee payroll checks; while entering/verifying payroll systems including time and attendance records, benefit data, payroll and tax adjustments. The Senior Payroll Specialist will also:

  • Handle specialized payroll functions by researching, interpreting and calculating deductions and payments to include garnishments, workers compensation, FLSA recalculations, tax deposits, management perquisites, etc.
  • Handle complicated state tax requirements
  • Coordinate special payments by processing separate payroll runs and preparing manual checks as needed
  • Processes bonus and variable compensation payments
  • Interface with Company management, payroll host, and governmental and tax authorities to resolve payroll related matters
  • Acts as a liaison with accounting
  • Provide payroll related information by preparing moderately complex reports for management decision-making and payroll auditing
  • Maintain payroll information by filing payroll, time and attendance reports, tax documentation and other payroll correspondence
  • Assist with governmental reporting and compliance by completing federal and state payroll tax reporting
  • Communicate and train employees and managers on payroll procedures and practices
  • Perform the full-range of payroll related duties including responding to more difficult employee questions and payroll related matter

Skills/Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years related payroll experience including automated timekeeping and payroll systems experience. Canadian payroll experience preferred.
  • Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CCP preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of US Federal and Multi-State payroll tax laws & Canadian Federal and Province laws, regulations and tax filings for Quarterly & Annual reporting, including W2's & T4's
  • Knowledge and understanding of Garnishment orders and laws, HSA and 401K/NQP plans
  • Must have experience with HRMS PeopleSoft 9.0 and Kronos 6.2
  • Experience with Ceridian Canada PowerPay Payroll system preferred
  • Intermediate ability to input information, maneuver screens and write reports and queries using automated Payroll system
  • Excellent attention to detail and possess strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills
