As a Senior Healthcare Economic Analyst on the Affordability team within Heath Care Economics you will be responsible for evaluating UHC's efforts to both improve the quality and reduce the cost of health care for our members. The Affordability team helps to identify areas where quality or cost can be improved by combining evidence from UHC's claims system with insights provided by clinical experts within UHC. As ideas on how to improve care move towards an actual program that can be implemented we help design a study that will help us to determine, as accurately as possible, whether or not that program has been a success.


 


As a Senior Health Care Economics Analyst you will assist in the process of analyzing data to measure clinical and financial outcomes. You will investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and health care costs data. As a Senior Analyst, you will participate in the interpretation and analysis of clinical data from various sources and help choose best approaches for its consolidation.


 


The Senior Healthcare Economics Analyst will be on the forefront of efforts to develop more and better ways to keep UHC on the leading edge of providing quality health care at a reasonable price.


 


Primary job responsibilities include:



- Working with complex raw healthcare claims and clinical data, and recognizing data patterns and potential issues and makes recommendations



- Performing statistical analyses to determine effectiveness of clinical programs (e.g., pre-post analysis, clinical trial results)



- Summarizing analytical findings



- Researching new approaches and methods to improve the quality and cost of care.



- Performing data extraction, aggregation, and quality checking from multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification, root cause analysis, affordability initiative development, and validation/measurement of medical expense reduction initiatives



- Collaborating within and outside the Medical Informatics department, UHC, and UHG to develop and continuously improve methods, processes, and technologies to enhance healthcare quality, affordability, outcomes, and member/provider experience.



- Providing ongoing communications on project status, results and conclusions from analyses




 


Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Statistical, or Health-related field

  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAS programming

  • Experience in the extraction of data and the use of large data sets to perform analysis

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact collaboratively with internal customers across multiple departments and business segments

  • Self-motivated to prioritize work on multiple complex assignments with ongoing deadlines

  • Proficient with MS Excel

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Health Administration, Management Decision Sciences, Statistics, Economics, or other business-related field

  • 5+ years of analysis and reporting experience in a health care environment

  • Health care industry experience

  • Statistical analysis background
