JOB DESCRIPTION

We're currently seeking a Technical Specialist for a contract opportunity in Glen Allen, VA with one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and experience with an industry leader currently operating the nation's largest natural gas storage system.

Responsibilities Include:

• Creating and maintaining EMS operational tools for use in Electric Transmission System Operations. This includes:
  • Independently performing engineering evaluations and analysis of various system configurations to ensure that all displays are electrically accurate. Power system elements should be correctly oriented and all electrical nodes should be correctly assigned.
  • The production of a Digital Schematic representation of the Bulk Electric System as a whole, SCADA One-Lines for transmission and generation substations, and SCADA One-Lines for Transmission Lines.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of all tools and applicable information by referencing and understanding .
• Supplied information from various Electric Transmission and Generation Engineering groups .
• Derived information based of off basic electrical analysis equations .
• Standard electrical circuit practices and construction .
• Ensuring the accuracy of telemetered information by:
  • Maintaining and updating various systems that house information both from internal and external sources .
  • Verifying that the correct communications protocols are being used by the Telemetry Front End .
  • Performing data point validations with personnel in the field .
  • Periodically monitoring the performance of the system to discover potential telemetry issues .
• Applying technical knowledge and technical skill to manage multiple on-going projects of medium to high complexity, supporting multiple groups within the company including the System Operations Center and the Market Operations Center.
• Support 24x7 operation of EMS by performing technical evaluations of events and root cause analysis to recommend corrective action .
• This role does not function as a technician in modifying, operating or maintaining systems or equipment.

Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering or Drafting and Design preferred.
• 2+ years' related experience.
• Basic knowledge of SCADA systems (Alstom eTerra suite in particular) .
• Ability to apply basic electrical engineering theories and concepts to effectively address moderate to complex problems .
• Basic knowledge of operation, maintenance and technical design applications .
• Basic verbal and written communication skills .
• Basic decision making skills .
• Computer skills and knowledge and use of various software programs .
• Basic analytical and problem solving skills .
• Ability to develop skills in abstract thinking .
• Ability to learn to interpret codes, regulations and practices .
