JOB SUMMARY


The Senior Accountant will play an integral role in the accurate and timely accounting and analysis of MI's revenues. This position is responsible for all aspects of franchise contracts pertaining to the calculation, recording, reporting, and analysis of MI revenues, including collaboration, documentation, and process implementation with FCC team members, Financial Reporting & Analysis, Accounting Policy, Treasury Accounting Services, Corporate & Statutory Accounting, and other key stakeholders. The Senior Accountant position will also focus on process alignment and will address business process improvements pertaining to contracts and revenue recognition based on financial terms and conditions of agreements.

BUSINESS CONTEXT/EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS


Expected Contributions
  • Review franchise agreements and ensure accounting procedures are in place to comply with contractual requirements for standard and complex deal arrangements. Support routines to track and monitor compliance.
  • Develop knowledge expertise in contractual revenue requirements for properties within the Marriott International portfolio.
  • Define, implement, and monitor processes and procedures to ensure revenue compliance with accounting principles and executed contract terms.
  • Assist in the documentation and monitoring of processes to ensure compliance with Company, Accounting and Contract policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and monitor recurring and non-recurring journal entries for area of responsibility. Leverage technology to seek best practice solutions.
  • Create and issue reports of Marriott's revenue results to senior management, including analysis and variance explanations to budget / forecast / prior periods. Leverage technology to seek best practice solutions.
  • Provide support to revenue planning activities - budget, forecast, long range plan, sensitivities.
  • Incorporate new Brands into existing processes and update current reporting requirements.
  • Support Global initiatives and standards set forth by Marriott and understand any downstream impacts to current processes.
  • Review balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis, ensure balances are accurate and reconciliations contain proper support for balances. Partner with MI Revenue Services (MIRS) and direct staff to ensure completeness and accuracy of account reconciliations.
  • Assist in the coordination of audit related questions and schedules.
  • Support Quarterly deliverables process and provide additional review to ensure accuracy of fee calculations.
  • Support SARBOX compliance and Internal Audit CSA's and walk-throughs.
  • Support day-to-day management of Franchise and Consolidations communications and provide ad-hoc reporting assistance as needed.
  • Ensure month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close checklists are updated on a regular basis to ensure work flow is completed.
  • Support consolidated fee reporting process for Revenue Accounting teams.
  • Provide information and support to the Financial Reporting Center of Expertise, Legal, Owner & Franchise Services, Global / Development Asset Management, and other departments as necessary.
  • Update and maintain Global Termination tracking and Liquidated Damages support documents to ensure recordation of fees, if applicable.
  • Collaborate with fellow team members to help refine RA like processes such as Projected Openings, Flips, Portfolio transactions, Fee Charge Code Requests, Terminations (including cash tracking), and Residential Fees, if applicable.
  • Identify improvements needed to existing processes, and initiate, develop, document and implement effective procedures and controls.
  • Assist in the development of systems enhancements to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the accounting function.
  • Establish strong working relationships with the various disciplines and regional offices.
  • Focus on providing excellent customer service.
  • Prioritize and focus on continuous process improvement.


CANDIDATE PROFILE
Experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Exposure to contracts and/or legal agreements

Education or Certification
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred
  • CPA certification a plus

Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong technical accounting skills; understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and related controls.
  • Strong financial acumen with proven analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous PeopleSoft experience preferred.
  • Broad understanding of accounting and the correlation of operating Financial Statements.
  • Broad understanding of Marriott accounting and finance processes and systems
