Primary Responsibilities:

• Responsible for supervising 20-30 direct reports (Specialty Pharmacists)


• Supervises the daily activities and tasks of Pharmacists/employees related to Prior Authorization, Prescription Verification, and Consulting


• Monitors operations of business unit and actively assists and provides direction to subordinates as required using standard policies, procedures and guidelines; works to optimize standardized procedures and improve operating efficiencies


• Prioritizes and coordinates work, provides leadership to and reviews the work of assigned staff


• Maintains and reviews most effective scheduling of staff to meet the needs and goals of business unit; assigns workload to staff to meet service levels, timeliness, regulatory compliance and deadlines


• Maintains knowledge to regulatory guidance relating to prior authorization reviews and translates regulatory/statutory requirements and modifies existing business processes in order to ensure operational compliance


• Performs or assists subordinates in performing duties and resolving problems


• Analyzes, researches and responds to client inquiries, escalations and systems-related issues as needed


• Interviews, hires new employees, ensures appropriate training, conducts performance reviews, counsels employees and takes appropriate disciplinary action


• Interprets physicians' prescriptions and creates order, accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from computer system


• Other duties and projects as assigned by management
  

Required Qualifications:

• Active pharmacist license in California with no restriction


• 4 year degree


• More than 1 year practicing pharmacist


• 1+ year experience leading, overseeing tasks, projects or staff


• Strong drug product and clinical pharmacy knowledge


• MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook


• Excellent written/verbal, interpersonal and problem-solving skills


• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pharm D degree


• Pharmacy Residency


• Prior authorization


• 1+ year experience working with a PBM company, Prior Authorization, Specialty Pharmacy, or managed healthcare system


• Working knowledge with CMS, ERISA, PPACA, URAC and NCQA requirements


• Knowledge specifically, but not limited, to various therapeutic categories: rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, hepatitis C, cancer, transplant, IVIG and growth hormones
