Senior Voice/ Data Network Engineer - Plymouth, MN

This candidate will work with a group of 10 network engineers who design, implement, and maintain connectivity to all third party organizations outside the UnitedHealth Group corporate environment. The candidate will also partially support enterprise wide Internet services, Web Hosting environments, employee VPN, remote access environments, and data center infrastructure, The engineer will interface with UnitedHealth Group businesses and external organizations to gather project requirements and implement network solutions to meet business requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide network engineering support for corporate projects involving private WAN and VPN connections to third party locations; stateside and internationally


• Choose WAN and VPN connectivity options for third parties based on business requirement and design templates


• Configure, document, and maintain Site to Site VPN connections using Cisco IOS


• Understand Telco Services and submit circuit orders


• Work with Telco Carriers to test and turn up new circuits


• Order network hardware


• Load IOS, configure, and install network hardware including Cisco routers and switches


• Document the network design and supporting information using Visio drawings, spreadsheets, and databases


• Understand firewall systems and submit firewall policy change requests as needed


• Adhere to Corporate Change Control Procedures


• Work with internal UnitedHealth Group businesses to provide network data and limited VoIP solutions

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 6 years configuring, installing, and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches


• Minimum of 4 years configuring Cisco switches with layer 2 and layer 3 VLans, trunking, and high availability options


• Minimum of 4 years working with global Telco companies turning up and troubleshooting circuit installations including: MPLS, PIP, and Ethernet offerings


• Minimum of 4 years configuring IPsec Site to Site VPN using Cisco hardware to third party IPSec devices


• Minimum of 4 years using BGP and OSPF routing protocols


• Minimum of 4 years knowledge of Firewall operations using Cisco, CheckPoint or other firewall vendors


• Minimum of 4 years VoIP experience using Cisco equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working projects and tasks within a Change Management system


• Experience working with content switching and load balancing


• Working knowledge of QoS in a WAN/LAN environment


• Working knowledge of SSL and Client VPN


• Knowledge of UNIX OS and using scripting functions
