Position Description:

As a Linux-Solaris Administrator you will work with a variety of individuals that may include business users, internal and external customers, application developers, QA, project leaders and others with a primary focus on large-scale systems, applications, databases and reports leveraging multiple tools, processes, and technologies.

Positions in this function review, analyzes, and modify programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing for a large-scale computer system. Evaluates system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. This function provides expertise in software systems programming, operating software applications, consults on complex projects/existing applications, and overall operating systems.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supporting Redhat Linux server environment
  • Supporting Solaris environment
  • Maintenance and support of current internal reporting/forecasting tools
  • Gathering business requirements
  • Design, develop, and test applications used internally by peers and externally to IT leaders
  • Provide technical support for non-programming staff
  • Plan and manage assignments of varying scope
  • Establish new and drive current business processes
  • Collaborate with team members to implement strategies to streamline current system processes
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; including the ability to follow/create technical support documentation
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Reviews the work of others.
  • Develops innovative approaches.
  • Sought out as expert.
  • Serves as a leader/ mentor.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years hands-on experience supporting a Redhat Linux server environment.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience supporting Solaris environment (experience with Solaris 10 including zones, zfs, smf)
  • Functional working knowledge with VMWare
  • Functional working knowledge/experience with Veritas/Veritas clustering
  • Functional working knowledge of SAN/NAS
  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense form SF86 .
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity/experience with AIX and HP_UX operating systems
  • Strong working knowledge of VERITAS VXVM/VCS
  • Oracle DB administration and familiarity with Oracle ASM
  • Functional working knowledge of Oracle RAC
  • Shell scripting experience
  • HPSA experience
  • HP Openview experience
  • Experience/understanding of the ITIL v3 framework
As a requirement of UnitedHealth Group's contract with the Department of Defense, this position requires U.S. citizenship and proof of favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense form SF86 , (the National Agency Check or NAC).  Successful completion of the NAC process is a requirement for continued employment in this role.  NAC processing will be initiated by our TRICARE Security Officer post-offer, and can take 3-6 months for a final decision communication from the Department of Defense.  Candidates will be allowed to begin employment with UnitedHealth Group in this role based on an interim clearance, and final results will be communicated as they are received.  Failure to obtain final NAC approval will result in termination from this role.
