Summary of Role:

The Engineer is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all equipment associated with broadcast operations, distribution and production activities at the network. This position will also provide technical support during productions and live events.



Emphasis: Studio & Production Systems

This position will primarily be responsible for maintaining all studio facilities, equipment and software applications for the Network under the direction of the Senior Director of Engineering. This includes, but is not limited to; production switchers, studio and ENG cameras, lighting systems, multi-view systems, intercom/communications systems, encode/decode systems, audio mixers, routing, patching, familiarity of IT systems, networking, media workflows and facility HVAC, electrical and security systems. This role ensures that these systems are optimally functioning, maintained, kept up to date and secured in a 24/7 environment. The Engineer must interface closely with systems users to identify and correct problems.



Essential Job Functions:

- Provide hands on engineering support including evaluation and resolution of technical issues affecting studio and field production.

- Maintenance of Stidio and Production related hardware and software systems

- Maintence of content capture and play-out hardware and software systems

Hands-on installation or fabrication of materials for new or modification projects.

- Assist engineering personnel responsible for Master Control, transmission, systems

Responsibilities:

Communicating trouble instances with vendors for support and repair. Working with vendors to help troubleshoot problems, install system updates and version upgrades.

Preparing and maintaining various technical records and engineering logs pertaining to broadcast equipment performance and discrepancies according to regulations.

Documents and maintains equipment maintenance history database and generates status reports for both users and supervisor.

Primary responsibility of maintaining production/studio related systems including; production automation systems, production switchers, Studio & ENG Camera systems, play-out servers, monitoring devices, graphics systems, video capture devices, ENG systems and equipment.

Maintain technical plant systems including but not limited to; routing switchers, multi-viewers, video servers, DA ' s, up/down/cross converters, monitoring systems, communication systems, audio systems etc.

- Assists production related personnel with solutions to production problems.

- Camera setup and shading during productions as needed

- Develop and implement proactive procedures.

- Assist in the training of operations personnel.

- Develops Audio, Video and IT Solutions and conceptual engineering design specification that meet users ' requirements.

- Generates cost-to-complete budgets, time-lines, equipment lists, floor plans, rack and console elevations.

- Creates test plans and test systems; interfaces with various users, technical services, technician and other Engineers to implement, install and debug these systems.

- Assist and advise regarding facilities maintenance included but not limited to; HVAC, plumbing, security systems, electrical etc.



Magnitude & Autonomy of Decision Making

Will troubleshoot equipment and recommend appropriate solutions including vendor repair, in house repair or equipment replacement.

- Will make decisions based on procedures and situations that may impact on-air transmissions

- Participates in operational and strategic planning, including workflow and equipment selection.

- Participates in the development and execution of standards and procedures.



Position Requirements:

Knowledge & Experience (Technical Responsibilities)

In depth knowledge of on-air operations work flows and practices

Practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and basic construction techniques

Experience with broadcast audio, video, automation and control systems, Video Servers, Graphics & IT Systems.

Strong understanding of IT Networking, Firewalls and Fiber-Optics.

Hands-on experience with maintaining, repairing and trouble-shooting various video servers.

Ability to install cabling and equipment, interpret wiring diagrams and drawings used in the design of new installations.

In-depth knowledge of Windows NT, 2000, XP operating systems, UNIX a plus

Comprehensive industry knowledge of analog and digital audio technology, satellite RF technology and distribution methods, data networks, servers, archive, distribution systems, analog and SMPTE standards.

Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations, applicable electrical, mechanical, structural and civil engineering methods helpful.

Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and handle the tools necessary to repair studio/post production equipment.

Strong understanding of the organization ' s goals and objectives.

Must be able to lift 75lbs.



Formal Education & Certification

- College diploma or university degree in the field of Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Computer Science or similar discipline and/or eight (8) years equivalent work experience.

- SBE (Society for Broadcast Engineer) certification desired.



Travel Requirements:

- Travel depending upon project needs

Work Conditions

- Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.

- Overtime may be required in meet deadlines.

- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.

- Provide on-call support 24 hours per day, 365 per year. Support may entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters. This includes, but is not limited to UPS/LIPA failures, storms or severe weather, and loss of personnel.
