Key Responsibilities
Reporting into the Global Marketing and Business Development Manager for PPG Packaging coatings the Global Segment Manager will drive global growth, market share, sales and the profitability for the Beverage segment to achieve the strategic business unit (SBU) product goals as outlined in the annual business strategy review.

S/he will lead the development and implementation of a global strategic segment plan with the support of the regional segment managers and global commercial organization. S/he will also identify market developments, industry trends and risk analyses to assist Head of Strategy/Marketing to project current and future unmet customer needs, disruptions and global segment strategies. In this role the Segment Manager is responsible for proper portfolio management of the segment and the market focus will include all players in the value chain (coil coaters, end/can makers,fillers).

Additional Responsibilities
  • Establish relationships with Key Fillers/Brand Owners; understand drivers and technology ideas and gain qualifications. Establish pull-through of fillers affecting coil coaters and can makers.
  • Develop pricing policies and commercial guidance to global and regional key account managers, general managers and sales force.
  • Use business intelligence (customer and competitor) to anticipate trends, forecast market developments and analyze industry trends to formulate a global segment strategy. Review and report all segment results and activities that affect PPG Packaging competitive position in the Packaging market.
  • Perform gap analysis on segment qualification position. Plan, prioritize and manage global segment qualification activities and address gaps with sales to promote our products widely with their customers.
  • Lead Product Lifecycle management.
    • For New Product Development, collect ideas through external and internal sources, develop a business case, present to TechEx to set technical prioritization. Own Stage-gate reviews for timely commercialization.
    • For existing products, analyze gaps and formulate commercial actions. Define and develop sales tools for value proposition, interface with Manufacturing/Supply Chain on sales growth volumes and implications for customers, countries, technologies and product families.
    • For SKU management, analyze and decide on product withdrawal and communicate with commercial, Manufacturing and Supply Chain and Purchasing.
  • Support Head of Strategy/Marketing in identifying and driving key acquisition and business partnership opportunities to support the growth and profitability of the segment. Develop a segment acquisition strategy and participate in development opportunities.
  • Support the implementation of consistent tools and processes (Global segment plan, product qualifications, marketing plan, CRM tool) for reporting market share, sales opportunities, share and risk factors to segment management.
  • Identify and attend all requisite trade shows / events that benefit the PPG Packaging organization. Assist in development of presentations, industry literature, training guides and databases appropriate for the Packaging coatings segment. Utilize Global communications function in Packaging to develop press releases and product brochures and share value propositions with key accounts, the regional segment and sales organizations.
  • Support the SBU Marketing Council to drive the key marketing initiatives within the SBU.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Strategy, Business or Management
  • At least 10 years experience in a strategic marketing, planning or product management role with at least 3 years of strategic global expereince


Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications)
  • Master's Degree


Functional and Technical Skills
  • Excellent ability to capture customer inputs, strong influencing skills and action orientation within a complex matrix organization plus demonstrable market and customer awareness are essential.
  • Ability to create a vision, lead a functional team and interface effectively with sales, technical and manufacturing management.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to understand and work well with cross functional teams and diverse cultures, globally.
