Vail Resorts Retail (VRR) is searching for a Retail Buyer/Merchandise Manager based in Aurora, Colorado who will support stores in the Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs Area. The Retail Buyer/Merchandise Manager will oversee all products in the Ski Hardgoods categories. Vail Resorts Retail (VRR) operates over 190 year-round and seasonal stores under 40 + retail brand names specializing in ski, bike, golf and fly fishing products and gear. We operate in world-class locations such as Aspen, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Telluride, Park City, Vail, Lake Tahoe, Minneapolis, Denver’s Front Range and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Job Summary: The Retail Buyer/Merchandise Manager will fulfill assigned buying functions for 7 stores generating business through year round, seasonal and promotional buys to maximize sales and profits. This position is responsible for the entire product life cycle from merchandise assortment, pricing, sales programs and promotion, to stock movement and liquidation. The Retail Buyer/Merchandise Manager will also coordinate with other regional Merchandise Managers, Store Operators, and Marketing to communicate merchandise assortments, product strategies, on floor merchandising and promotional efforts across all stores. Position reports to Hardlines Divisional Merchandise Manager who is located in Broomfield, CO.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Purchase goods for multiple locations
  • Effectively manage sales, margin, and turns
  • Evaluate sales trends and create strategies and methods for sales growth
  • Liaison with marketing manager on marketing efforts, product knowledge, product selection, merchandising, etc.
  • Comply with budgets and OTBs
  • Allocate time in stores to review merchandising, discuss trend and reporting, receive feedback, to learn about the guest, and elevate service to the internal customer
  • Provide product layout and visual merchandising assistance to all locations
  • Lead on industry trends/products
  • Manage and correct any warehouse and invoice problems in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, strategic & financial skills
  • Exhibit organizational and time management skills
  • Travel to trade shows and product reviews as necessary
  • Remain available during major promotions and holidays


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of buying/merchandising experience for multiple locations, or equivalent combined work experience and education
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • In-depth experience with Microsoft Intermediate Excel functions (V look up, Pivot Tables, Macros)
  • ?Able to read and analyze retail reports and action plan as necessary to adjust merchandising and presentation set ups
  • Ability to fluently communicate in English
  • Strong interpersonal skills--written and verbal communication and team collaboration
  • Strong organizational and process planning skills
  • Familiar with AS400/ Retail IDEAS reporting system, and familiar with JDA MMS inventory system, extremely helpful
  • Specialty winter sports buying experience preferred
  • Experienced skier helpful
