Job Description:

The Applications Development Associate will join a development team that is responsible for a mission critical application to UPS operations.  The Applications Development Associate supports programming, testing, and analysis duties and tasks.  He/She performs tasks within planned durations to meet established deadlines.  This position will provide coding, testing, and/or analysis for basic applications.  He/She collaborates with teams to ensure effective communications and to support the achievement of objectives.

This position provides support for applications and business functions.  He/She contributes to the identification and reporting of defects in work products.  This position assists with documentation (e.g., requirements, test and defect data, variances, problem resolution, etc.).  The Applications Development Associate performs activities of lower complexity under close supervision.

Responsibilities:

Performs Basic Programming Activities

  • Performs and completes specific programming activities (e.g., macros, web development, etc.) to deliver routine programs for supporting business functions.
  • Provides testing of basic and routine functionality to complete and deliver assignments.
    Follows and complies with specifications, coding standards, and project guidelines to ensure code integrity.

Assists with Programming Support

  • Assists in the creation of documentation to meet projects and users’ requests.
  • Interacts with applications team members to acquire systems knowledge.
  • Creates and executes queries and reports to fulfill information requests.
  • Assists with systems support to ensure applications’ operability and reliability.

Contributes to the Identification and Reporting of Defects in Work Products

  • Participates in the testing of work products and processes to identify defects, to meet standards, and to ensure effectiveness.
  • Contributes input to initial analysis to develop and implement appropriate actions.

Participates in Analysis and Testing

  • Contributes to the development of business and functional requirements to ensure stakeholder understanding.
  • Supports the analysis of processes of low complexity to ensure accurate documentation of requirements and processes and to complete test coverage and requirement testability.
  • Contributes to test scripts, set-up, plans, data, and updates to support the testing phase and to ensure test requirements are met.

Supports the Analysis and Communication of Business Needs

  • Participates in work sessions to gather relevant information and to ensure understanding of the audience's knowledge.
  • Contributes to the analysis, understanding, and application of the appropriate level of details to ensure mapped solutions satisfy business problems and opportunities.
  • Supports conflict resolution activities to ensure the achievement of common goals.
  • Assists in developing business and functional requirements to ensure stakeholder understanding and to serve as a basis for corresponding work products.

Education:

The desired Applications Development Associate will possess a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics or related field or the equivalent in education and work experience.  A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
