Description

Responsible for planning and implementation of external communications initiatives that support Manheim and Cox Automotive. Manheim and Cox Automotive are leading providers of products and services that span the automotive ecosystem worldwide. Responsible for building and maintaining a positive company image by managing communication strategies and tactics that promote related products and services, organizational developments such as new business ventures and support overall brand positioning and messaging.

This position will serve as the subject matter expert on Manheim and its related businesses and will advise on management of related PR and media relations activities for products and services, marketing, competitive positioning, community relations, crisis communications and employee issues. Job requires strategic thinking ability, strong writing skills, personal initiative, solid relationship-building skills, creativity, ability to use good judgment and flexibility.

Programs and tactics executed should effectively position Manheim & Cox Automotive as the best choices for wholesale and retail services. Ideal candidate must be a team player, solid communicator and be able to formulate and recognize good ideas, evaluate business initiatives/programs based on business objectives and company values and manage all aspects of successful implementation.

The Manager reports to the Senior Director of Public Relations for Manheim. This position has no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

Serves as communications advisor and subject matter expert to Manheim/Cox Automotive’s corporate and field leaders and associated businesses. Builds strong proactive relationships with national and trade media and industry representatives to help generate positive coverage and mitigate potentially negative coverage. Looks for opportunities to position Manheim and associated companies as drivers of innovative and creative solutions that benefit customers and the industry. Provides communications support for Marketing and sales and may advise and manage communications initiatives for other parts of the company as needed.

· Manages communications plans, strategies and activities that promote Manheim and Cox Automotive. Works to build company visibility and a strong company image. This includes creating awareness around the wholesale vehicle auction industry and its economic value to the larger auto industry, and furthering Cox Automotive’s vision to transform the way the world buys, sells and owns cars.

· Creates Public Relations programs that position Manheim and Cox Automotive as industry and thought leaders. Positively position the companies’ wholesale and retail products and solutions as innovative and industry-leading to the media and current and potential customers. Reinforces the long-time investment and commitment both companies provide to the remarketing and auto industries.

· Collaborates with Cox Automotive’s PR and Marketing teams and employee communications to execute strategies and plans to promote Manheim and Cox Automotive’s offerings among internal and external audiences.

· Partners with Industry Relations to coordinate and support strategic speaking engagements, awards, national and local media tours to promote Manheim and Cox Automotive.

· Provides tools such as briefing materials and messaging, ensuring consistency among field and corporate leadership and the media.

· Works with the Sr. Director of Public Relations to support general national media opportunities. Also works with current PR Manager to formulate complementary PR strategies and tactics.

· Establishes and leverages strong partnerships with key departments and internal/external customers.

· Assists with monitoring, tracking and distribution of relevant industry and company news coverage; generates internal reports and activities, as needed.

· Writes and edits press releases and other external materials

· Supports Manheim’s top business markets and helps drive local PR programs, tactics.

· Provides media coaching and training, as needed, to enhance corporate and field leadership presence.

· Works collaboratively with field leadership to help identify local story ideas that enhance local visibility and demonstrate the company’s business value and community giving.

Qualifications

College degree - related major or concentration preferred; minimum 5‐7 years work experience in the public relations field; experience in a corporate environment preferred. The job unconditionally requires: 1) strategic business sensibility, 2) a demonstrable grasp of corporate

business principles, dynamics and realities; 3) passion for and broad, experience in public relations and related fields 4) excellent written and verbal communication skills 5) ability to interact with senior management 6) solid collaboration and interpersonal skills. 7) Problem-solver and decision-maker 8) strong organizational skills 9) self-starter and drives for results 10) experience communicating in high-pressure and crisis situations.

Ideal candidate will have experience in managing public relations initiatives that produced strong, measurable results in promoting company messaging, industry contributions and core product offerings Personal knowledge of social media and press rooms and experience using it to help build brands and promote a strong company image are a plus. Ability to manage and prioritize heavy work load and meet deadlines in a fast‐ paced work environment. Ability to exercise discretion related to confidential material. Requires excellent written and verbal skills, creativity, personal initiative and the ability to effectively champion programs and strategies.

Workload may demand working extended hours as necessary. Travel requirement – as needed for auction visits, media tours and other initiatives. Less than 25%.
