Commodities Manager – Procurement/Risk Management – DPSG Headquarters - Plano, TX





The successful Commodities Manager establishes the strategic direction, manages, coordinates, and directs the commodity risk management for energy, packaging material, and utilities exposures. It also forecasts, executes plans, and tracks measurement objectives for commodity risk management across the DPSG commodities portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in grain, energy, or metals commodity management within a CPG or energy organization. We are looking for a candidate with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a wide variety of internal and external audiences and settings. This individual must have strong analytical and financial skills to support procurement operations and strategies with the ability to see the picture, holistically viewing the procurement function and process as a part of a much larger process and company. An ability to drive performance through Dr Pepper Snapple Group ACTION behaviors, in addition to proven work ethics, a sense of urgency to drive results, and strong prioritization, skills are a MUST.

This position is located in Plano, TX and will require 10% domestic and international travel.

Key Responsibilities



In this position you will develop and execute strategies to manage the corporation's raw material portfolio of energy, packaging, and utilities related commodities exposures. In addition to managing the corporate commodity price risk for aluminum, PET, natural gas, diesel fuel, utilities and others as necessary with exposure exceeding $400MM per year.

Analytics
  • Develop and maintain supply & demand models for key commodity exposures. Develop presentation material and communication chain to educate and communicate short and long-term risks and opportunities in commodities markets
  • Monitor economic calendar and provide insight and guidance on government(s) economic policies, labor, inflation, production, growth statistics with ability to translate ramifications of economic activity on commodity markets
  • Provide formal and ad hoc training on markets and economics to procurement and/or supply chain
  • Develop and maintain databases and spreadsheets to track business specific commodities prices including soliciting/managing data vendors or processes to pull real time data from various media sources
  • Ability to conduct time-series studies on commodities prices, provide statistical, correlation/regression, scenario/elasticity/sensitivity analysis on datasets
  • Maintain current understanding of derivatives legislation or external policies, rules, or laws which could affect or impact corporate hedging practices






Risk Management
  • Demonstrated ability to unbundle commodity component of manufactured raw materials and convert raw material volumes into commodity positions
  • Organize and conduct monthly steering committee meetings for commodity policy adherence
  • Develop and maintain databases and spreadsheets to track business specific commodities volumes, cover prices, and market exposure
  • Collect data and prepare presentations for senior leadership meetings or as required and provides explanations for movements in commodity prices
  • Provide commodity cover recommendations consistent with policy guidelines for forward cover
  • Communicate and maintain business relationships with key trade counter-parties for execution of derivative transactions
  • Provide weekly commodity position reporting




Execution
  • Execute cover recommendations as per policies via OTC products, Futures, or Vendor direct cover
  • Ensure all executed commodity transactions are properly signed, recorded, and communicated to Corporate Accounting and Treasury in compliance with Corporate policy
  • Validate month-end derivative settlement invoices with bank or vendor counterparts
  • Maintain joint tracking model for derivative transactions with Corporate Accounting, ensure month-end settlements are properly recorded and allocated to business units
  • Maintain mark-to-market model to track realized month/quarter end realized and unrealized gains


Finance
  • Provides monthly commodity price forecasts to Commercial and Supply Chain finance and annual baseline commodities price forecasts for budget/planning purposes and maintains models to verify or modify for subsequent plan adjustments
  • Maintains commodity price database for use by the Procurement team and others
  • Coordinates with other Supply Chain teams (Logistics, Planning and Plants) to develop best practice modeling to coordinate finished good volume forecasts and commodity volumes and implementation of joint risk management initiatives.
  • Liaise with Corporate Accounting to develop and ensure appropriate accounting methods are implemented for internal and external reporting of commodity exposures, including FAS treatment for derivatives, model tests including component cost builds and regression tests for hedge effectiveness, and normal purchase normal sale exceptions




Cross-Function Activities
  • Expert skills with analytical tools (e.g. Excel, Access) in order to draw conclusions and make recommendations from large data sets
  • Be extremely proficient at oral / written communication in order to effectively explain complex ideas and approaches to a wide audience (MS Word and MS PowerPoint).
  • Work with finance and planning teams to provide market analysis, financial and cost models, risk reporting, and ad hoc analysis as needed
  • Be able to interact with all levels of the organization, ranging from senior executives through middle management
  • Be an effective interviewer in order to understand business requirements from several different perspectives. Also have the ability to build rapport with a variety of key stakeholders
  • Be able to coordinate across multiple functions, to include: procurement, supply chain, finance, marketing


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college of university.
  • 3 years of experience in grain, energy, or metals commodity management.
  • 3 years of experience in corporate supply chain, procurement, quality, finance, operations, and/or process management experience
  • 3 years of experience in forecasting, negotiation, and contract management skills and legal and contract management background.
  • Consumer products or commodity-based industry experience in diverse commodity management role.
  • 3 years of experience with ERP or CTRM systems, Oracle or SAP, third-party data suppliers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
