As an Actuary, you will perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling that provides management with statistical findings and conclusions. In this role you will interpret rate regulations, keep up with regulation changes, submit rate filings to comply with regulations and negotiate with the state during the approval process while helping health plan to achieve both business and financial goals. The analyses will impact foundational pricing and risk assumptions. You will analyze and implement changes that impact the foundational pricing and risk assumptions. Responsibilities may also include calculation of reserves, development of program rates and forecasting/trend analysis. The position will collaborate with other functional teams in order to achieve the common goals.


 


Primary Responsibilities:



  • Analyzing data and modeling actuarial studies

  • Interpreting state rate regulation requirements and secure rate filings approvals from State DOIs

  • Interacting with State DOIs and Alliance of Health Plans

  • Designing complex data programs and Performing quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and costs data

  • Working with less structured, more complex issues, and identifying solutions to non-standard requests/problems

  • Represent Actuarial Pricing and serve as a point of contact to business and functional partners

  • Able to make pricing recommendations and influence others to make informed decisions

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Economics or a related degree

  • ASA or FSA designation

  • 4+ years of experience working in healthcare industry with small group, large group in all aspects of group pricing, manual rate studies and rate filings

  • Have prior experience in creating and making actuarial presentations to business managers

  • At least an intermediate level of proficiency working with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, calculations, pivot tables, charts, graphs, etc.

  • At least a basic level of proficiency with Access

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with SAS or SQL

  • Experience working in healthcare industry with group managed care insurance background

  • Experience in all aspects of group pricing and rate filing
