Position Summary: The Bookstore Manager directs and coordinates the overall management of the UNO Bookstore including but not limited to budget, financial management, merchandising, purchasing, customer service, inventory and accounting functions, personnel management, computer information systems (point of sale and inventory systems), customer relations and campus community relations. The Manager provides overall leadership in the development of policies and procedures for day to day operations as well as the implementation of services and is expected to maintain sufficient profitability while focusing on the mission of service. The Manager is responsible for the financial results of the Bookstore and must be able to read and interpret financial reports and act on those results. Merchandising plays a very important role in the sales and function of the Bookstore. The Manager must provide vision and leadership in how space is utilized for maximum efficiency and profitability. The Manager is an integral figure in the campus community and must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with a varied group of people within that community. Must be accessible and responsive to resolving customer & employee issues in a timely manner. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with some nights and weekends when needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Merchandising: Coordinate the merchandising of the sales floor and provide vision and leadership in how space is utilized for maximum efficiency and profitability. Maintain standards for presentation, merchandise mix, housekeeping and store aesthetics. Supervise the selection and ordering of all textbooks and non-book merchandise. Maintain the inventory system and a buying plan. Coordinate the annual inventory procedures and process Control stock inventory levels to maximize inventory turnover while minimizing shortages of inventory. Negotiate with students, faculty, administration and staff regarding all issues related to merchandise, books and services provided. Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to ensure the best price and best service.

Financial: Coordinate all financial matters including budget development, sales and profitability analysis, purchasing, oversight of operating expenditures and the maintenance of appropriate accounting controls. Insure maintenance of payroll records, invoices, purchase orders, accounts payable & accounts receivable. Review and analyze the monthly financial statement for the Bookstore. Take corrective action to meet financial goals of the Bookstore.

Management/Leadership: Demonstrate effective leadership of the Bookstore's management team comprised of the Course Materials Manager, General Merchandise Manager and Operations Manager. Responsible for hiring and training of all employees. Schedule and lead orientation for all new employees. Manage leave requests, develop performance plan and standards and evaluate employee performance, coach and counsel on performance issues, recommend and administer corrective action, recommend disciplinary action, determine work schedules and work assignments and maintain a positive work environment. Review and update policies, procedures, systems and bookstore goals (inclusive of purchasing, accounting, pricing, merchandising and inventory management, and control procedures) on an ongoing basis. Provide and demonstrate outstanding customer service in all areas impacting the bookstore, its employees, vendors and customers.

Relationships/Technology: Develop and maintain rapport with faculty, staff, administration, students & vendors. Nationally and regionally, develop and maintain contact and rapport with the college store industry & other universities for networking, benchmarking and information purposes in order to stay current with best practices in the store industry and to ensure the Bookstore is receiving the best value for its purchasing dollar. Develop and maintain contact and rapport with companies and representatives, ensuring adequate supplies of needed books and merchandise. Must stay current with all technology and other trends as they relate to the Bookstore and recommend any advancements and/or changes to the Director of MBSC Business Operations

Marketing: Provide leadership and direction for the marketing efforts and promotion for the Bookstore with the assistance and coordination of the Student Center's Marketing Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management or related field.
Required Experience: Minimum of three years in retail management and two years supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience: Previous Bookstore experience, preferably on a college campus, and strong financial background. Ability to handle stressful situations with customer(s). Working knowledge of Excel, Word and other business software. Good oral and written communication skills. Effective supervision skills and fosters a climate of respect and collegiality. Knowledge of University policies and procedures. Utilizes independent judgment to make and execute decisions that may affect a significant percentage of the student population. Must have the ability to assess risk and problem solving by critically evaluating alternative courses of action and arrive at solutions that are best for the UNO Bookstore and the campus. Interacts with a wide variety of individuals to include UNO faculty, staff and students. Frequent interaction with UNO accounting services, controller, audit and other related areas. Interacts with peers in the industry
