Responsible for handling a caseload of initial liability and ongoing case management of group Long Term Disability (LTD) claims, utilizing acquired skills and knowledge, as well as focused resources (medical, vocational, legal, financial), to effectively and professionally manage to the appropriate conclusion. 

 

Authorizes the appropriate payment or refers claims to investigators for further review. Conducts data entry and rework; analyzes and identifies trends and provides reports as necessary. 

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to relate to a wide variety of claimants, policyholders, brokers, agents and other parties associated with the claim through the appropriate use of verbal and written communications skills emphasizing eloquence, persuasion, and compassion.
  • Advanced case management skills:  Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of claims investigation and understand the current legal, medical, economic, and vocational climate to allow for global evaluation and analysis of both initial liability and ongoing group Long Term Disability claims.
  • Sound judgment:  Must demonstrate excellent judgment, understanding the relative value of information so as to effectively and efficiently arrive at a sound liability decision.  Must demonstrate qualities of fairness, compassion, and dispassionate objectivity, allowing the facts of the investigation to dictate the liability decision without undue speculation.
  • Self reliance:  Ability to self motivate and to act.  Requires the knowledge of how and when to involve risk-management partners and/or manager while recognizing that understanding and application of this information is the candidate's responsibility

Requirements

Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma/ GED
  • Working Hours Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm 
  • Group or individual disability claims management experience 
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of MS Word and Excel are required.

Assets:

  • A college degree is preferred, with related industry coursework or certifications a plus.     
  • Involvement with local and national industry-related organizations, and knowledge of medical terminology, would also be helpful.
