POSITION PURPOSE -

An accounting supervisor is needed to for analyzing and reporting financial data from manufacturing activities to determine the cost of conducting business for a retail organization with a manufacturing operation. The position will be responsible for the completeness, accuracy, timeliness and quality of monthly, quarterly and annual cost reporting and analysis. This position will be also responsible for monthly inventory reporting (raw materials, turns, cycle times, and product line totals). Responsibilities also includes supervising up to 3 associates.

  • Update standard costs in the bill of materials
  • Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
  • Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, perform analytical studies in regards to cost analyses and profitability
  • Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances
  • Implement and drive improvements in plant processes and policies
  • Train and develop personnel, including individuals throughout the organization, in the understanding of standard costing and production variances
  • Assist in month-end closing; analyze inventory valuation, and inventory roll forward
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts, and investigate cycle counting variances and resolve issues; and record inventory adjustments
  • Analyze and monitor raw material and WIP inventory
  • Review internal controls and updates process narratives as required
  • Lead process improvement initiatives within the department and organization
  • Other applicable duties, as assigned or required

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
  • Analyzes income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements and other accounting statements and reports.
  • May Assign work to subordinate Accountant staff, Bookkeepers, Accounting Clerks and other associates engaged in general accounting activities.
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
  • Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures.
  • Assures that all assigned projects adhere to accepted professional standards.
  • Recommends changes in accounting methods or procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
  • Must be eighteen years of age
  • Must pass the Drug Test
  • Must pass the Background Check
  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

EDUCATION REQUIRED -

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -

  • 3 years minimum cost accounting and accounting field experience
  • Direct report experience preferred

  • Written and Verbal communications skills
  • Computer application skills such as Excel, Access, General Ledger, etc
