Contract Network Engineer - 2-3 months.
Basic Function/ Purpose
Support the IT teams in the area of technical strategies, direction and implementation. Specifically focusing on networking projects and technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities
To assist in defining technical strategies.
To provide technical consultancy, expertise and advice to the development teams and management on matters of technical architecture and infrastructure development.
Assesses situations quickly and efficiently, document pertinent information and decide on/recommend appropriate actions as required.
Diagnoses and resolves applicable complex issues including:
o Network Infrastructure: architect, develop and implement new business services, troubleshoot complex issues and ensure resolution.
Researches new solutions that will provide business value by decreasing overhead and/or increasing efficiencies.
Supports escalated incidents, analyzing and troubleshooting moderate to major incidents, opening request tickets, properly documenting requests/actions and triaging more complex requests for further actions as appropriate.
Technical Competencies
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Cisco Certifications
3+ years of job related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experienced in supporting Microsoft Windows and Linux server platforms.
Familiar with various storage (Netapp, EMC) SAN and NAS technologies.
Experienced in implementing and supporting Networking technologies including:
o TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
o Cisco Routing and Switching
o Carrier circuit implementations and changes including MPLS, Ethernet, and BGP routing configuration.
o Cisco ASA Firewall configuration and management including high-availability configurations.
o Fortinet FortiGate Firewall configuration and management (Not required, but desirable)
o Wireless networking technologies
o F5 BigIP LTM configuration and management
o VMWare vSphere networking
Additional Competencies
Excellent oral and written communication skills for documenting requests and change control practices while performing job activities.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general technical periodicals, journals and procedures.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from information, employees, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of legal and technical information; ability to exercise detailed analysis.
Ability to quickly analyze and assess a situation (minor to moderate in complexity) and make a decision regarding further handling of the request
High level of understanding of appropriate Operating Systems and related applications.
Knowledge of the majority of business applications and utility software for escalation.
Knowledge of hardware for diagnostic purposes.
High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Must be tactful and flexible and have the ability to get along with diverse personalities.
Ability to prioritize activities and projects. Skilled at time management and attention to administrative detail. Refined sense of urgency.
