A successful CMDB Administrator will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and professional experience working with multiple teams.
  • Experience in the configuration management space; preferably with discovery tools.
  • Experience managing a system or application, preferably in an ITIL-supported environment.
  • Experience working with multiple teams to establish and champion new processes.
  • Experience writing custom workflow scripts, Java preferred.
  • Team player who can work with different personality types and produce results; technical and process writing is a plus.

 

The CMDB Admin will work as a member of the Tools Team in IT Operations.  The primary responsibility will be to oversee the day-to-day activities surrounding our newly-deployed configuration management database (CMDB).  As part of the Service Now deployment, we will be implementing a robust CMDB that captures IT systems and their relationships.  The CMDB admin will be responsible for the overall health and maintenance of this application and will help drive processes and procedures around it throughout the IT organization.

 

Primary Responsibilities fall in the following categories:

  • Work with the Service Now admin in the deployment of the CMDB auto-discovery process, which will capture our IT Systems and populate the database.
  • Work with key groups to ensure accurate information is recorded.
  • Manually create relationships in the CMDB, such as key business services and applications to servers and databases.
  • Work with system owners to establish processes that will keep the relationships and data updated on an on-going basis.
  • Create and maintain automated workflows in the CMDB to meet customer requirements.
  • Serve as a backup to other team members by providing support for monitoring and logging tools; provide on-call support for the team on a rotating schedule.
